Royal Bank sells U.S. operations for $3.45 B to PNC Financial Services

TORONTO - Royal Bank of Canada has reportedly agreed to sell its money-losing retail banking operations in the United States to PNC Financial Services Group Inc. for $3.45 billion, a move that would finally bring an end to the bank's foray south of the border.

The deal, first reported Sunday by The Wall Street Journal, is expected to be announced on Monday.

Analysts had estimated the bank's potential valuation range between US$2.8 billion and US$3.7 billion.

RBC (TSX:RY) operates under the RBC Bank banner in the U.S. with more than 400 branches throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Florida and Alabama.

(I guess this means the Caroline Hurricanes might be seeking a new sponsor, since their Hockey Arena is named RBC Center )

More,

It's an irrelevant issue. These type of legal exchanges also come with a proviso that previous contracts will be honored and that the new owner assumes all terms and conditions of such. Any changes if they do happen will have to be negotiated. The only likely change at the moment will be the new company name on the stadium, arena sign. Good example of this in the sports world was when NASCAR's Nextel Cup became Sprint Cup after Nextel was bought out by Sprint.

Consider the source to which you were responding!

Wow ! Just had to look it up how long the contract goes :

Naming RightsRoyal Bank of Canada paid $80 million for 20-year naming rights. (from 2002).
Former Names
Raleigh Entertainment & Sports Arena
(1999-2002)

Wonder if they sold those rights to PNC or not ?

I'm glad I didn't watch the entire clip. It's actually a hypnotism tape put out by Canadian authorities to get the vandals to turn themselves in.

with some add agency with this to the extent of a few million.
Socialist my ass, capitalism reigns supreme here.

Wow, your hundred dollar bill has a picture of Sir Robert Borden, who during his time as prime minister of Canada, instituted an unpopular war draft, a "temporary" income tax, and approved the use of the military to put down strikers in Winnipeg.

Stephen Harper, the current Anti-Christ of Canada, will surely surpass the fascist mark set by Borden.

Actually a funny read until it dawns on you that he's talking about you/us. But it's still funny and I had to chuckled at it's irony.

Watching people live in places like the US, Canada, UK, Australia and most of Europe is sometimes just hilarious to watch... I like to sit back on the beach in southern Mexico, having defected from Canada years ago, and ponder the absurdity sometimes.

Most are slaves and they don't even know it. Worse, they all support their own slavery and, in many ways, make themselves more into slaves every day... on purpose!
