Instead of getting hit up for united way, we had a choice to give to a ups non profit, run by retired employees, and management. This non profit would be for ups employees and their family, also for people who my need help on your route or in your area. Would you be more likely to give. I know that I would.

UPS matches 15% of our contributions to cover the administrative costs. Donating by payroll deduction allows me to donate much more than I could if I had to write a single check. All of my donation goes to my selected charity (I know cuz I checked). UPS looks good and I get a tax write-off.

I give direct to the Charity of my choice, not who my Employer thinks I should give my heard earned $ to.
Just my personal way of doing charity giving.

I just say screw the United Way and donate to a charity I know and feel comfortable with. I don't know why everyone feels they have to donate to the United Way.
