Nope, but it is strongly encouraged.

I don't know why anyone feels they need to donate anything.

I have more than enough to keep me comfortable. I donate to a children's camp. If I can help some little kid in a wheelchair have some fun, I gladly will.

I just say screw the United Way and donate to a charity I know and feel comfortable with. I don't know why everyone feels they have to donate to the United Way.

I have fellow drivers whose kids received help through the united way. That's the only reason why I even donate, honestly.

I'm just relieved some of my money has helped friends and their families I know personally.

We have a driver who has a child with some disabilities. One year everybody in the center donated to the charity that helped support her such as building a ramp to their home, special care, stuff like that. The driver burst into tears thanking everybody when he found out. Best money I've ever spent.

Management does not have to donate to United Way. It is strictly optional but strongly encouraged. Its sort of like skydiving; the diver does not have to pull the rip cord on his parachute, it is also strictly optional but strongly encouraged.
