Its ridiculous with all the technology that's out there that the DIADS can't use GPS to help the driver.

The DIAD's have GPS capability, it's just not enabled yet. Think I've read in one of the investor notes that the functionality will be turned on once ORION is fully deployed which is sometime next year.

Just think of the new services that can be created once the drivers exact coordinates are located. How about "UPS Now" - for an extra $10, we will tell the customer exactly where the driver will be at a specific time and it becomes essentially a personalized meet point. This could be a part of the premium MyChoice family - $40/year and unlimited/discounted use of "UPS Now." Most people would not use it more than 5-7 times/year.

Would every customer have a need for "UPS Now?" No. The question is, would enough customers use this to make the service profitable and a competitive advantage?

DIAD's already very much use GPS. Just not to help the driver.

True, the new G07 "upgrade" which we are forced to install now due to the old paddles not being possible to reorder anymore they operate on Verizons network in our area. We were checking it out recently and it said when it last communicated. It said "last communicated 17 secs ago." We were also able to check its updated location, the previous communication was less than 2 minutes before that one.

$250/year taxed basically in half=roughly $125. We pay thousands in tools each year to make sure we can effectively do the job, last year I paid over $3000.00 in tools, the year before that about the same. To complain over spending $75 (if it's even that much) to do the job is pathetic. All those shiny tool boxes you see in the shop were not supplied by UPS.
At least you don't have to buy socks.

An entire software and device upgrade is needed. Maybe UPS partners with Verizon or some other large wireless service provider someday.
All drivers use a smart phone. Many smart phones have IR readers nowadays too. Some App where the customer signs your smart phones screen.

Maybe when UPS pays for the phones and issues them like DIADs. UPS did issue pagers at one time but got the cheapest deal possible where the pagers would just beep for you to find a phone to call in and ask what they wanted. No text message capability.

They would if UPS and a wireless company partnered together and a smart phone replaced the diad.

That's what I'm saying. Smart phone replaces the diad. Would not be used for "personal" use.
Smart phones have been around long enough something from a few generations ago would most likely work.
