Last I checked the trade unions (elect., plumbing, nail pounders) around the midwest were charging around $125.00 a month for dues.

"This year’s $100,000 Club raises serious questions about whether Hoffa is using members’ dues to try to buy this fall’s election.
Last year, your dues paid $773,000 to two political consultants, Greg Tarpinian and Richard L, both key Hoffa Campaign consultants.

Hoffa doled out an incredible $8.4 million last year to 164 Teamster officials who already earn at least one other union salary. Multiple salaries have skyrocketed by 764 percent since Hoffa took office. These salaries function as a patronage system to officers who are expected to turn out the vote for Hoffa in return."

Yep, we need to raise those dues again. Poor Hoffa and his henchmen really need it. :/

This is nothing new. This is how all unions act. $3000 office chairs and kickbacks to buddies.

Having been on the flip side of union dues. IE: working non-union jobs, i can honestly say that the price paid for union dues with the benefits package I am recieving now is a small price to pay.

Before I ever came to UPS, I had some decent paying jobs, but for the most part the benefits were always lacking, compared to what I recieve now. The math is rather simple far as comparing non-union jobs with the benefits to union with the benefits. In A nut shell, The dues are a very small price to pay for what I have gained.

A person doesn't have to look very far to see the difference, either. Just check the help wanted ads in the local paper sometime. As an employee at UPS,represented by a union I think it is best to count your blessings, things could definately be a lot worse. Yes, UPS nor the teamsters are perfect, there are things that a person would like to see different, but what job is perfect?

History has proven that the teamster representation does have a lot to do with the kind of pay and benefits your able to enjoy today. The dues that are charged are for the most part well worth the price.

For every person that complains about how unfair the union dues are, there are 200 (non-union) others that would love to have your problem.

Why aren't other Teamsters represented companies paying 2 times their hourly wage for dues? I've talked to other Teamster Drivers for other companies and they aren't paying anywhere near 2 times their hourly wage.

I'll tell you why, because UPS employees are paying the way for all those other Teamster members who work for other companies. If the Teamsters lose UPS they will be digging their grave.

I don't feel most of us don't want to pay dues, but if the APWA can do the same or better for us for half the dues where is all the rest going?

NO THANK YOU! APWA has no chance. Vegas would not even give it Odds.Keep up the fight brother !

If your cell phone provider charged you too much, you'd switch.

If your oil company charged you too much, you'd switch.

If your credit card charged too much interest, you'd switch.

It's just another business decision.

If you don't like paying dues then call your union hall and get out. You guys think the whole union is UPS. It's not. There are many fine companies and even townships in the Teamsters. When you do resign from the union make sure to tell your supervisors and all the drivers loaders unloaders what you did. If you cant afford the tax deductible dues you should not be in the teamsters or any other union. What the dues are now is really not much for what we get. You or I really cant even comprehend the fights or negotiations that went on or are still going on. UPS and other companys complain. They hate giving up money like anyone. But without the teamsters and other unions some of the strongest companies would not need gaurd shacks, they would just need a revolving door. A lot of teamster jobs were lost over the years but it's in part due to goverment regulations, not because of supervisor mo, curly or sue. The founder of UPS wanted his employees to work hard but also to have enough money to buy the the items we ship everyday. Jim Cason, the founder for those of you who dont know, invited the teamsters in. He knew what he was doing. He had a long range plan for the company and so far it's worked. He wouldn't want to admit it, if was alive today, but the teamsters help him lead the way. Our socitey is changing rapidly; the new supervsiors have modern ideas, not always good; the best ideas come from witin the rank and file. So if you dont want to pay dues, I'll pay your last week's dues then you get out and stand nearly alone with you favorite supervisor let me know how it goes.

I got out in 1997. I stood alone at the picket line and told everyone I would cross the line the next day. Face to face. If they could give me a rational argument against what the company offered and what the union would "promise". I went to work the next day. From that point I have put my "dues" into an investment fund that will make up for what was lost in my future retirement pension. I was a member of United Steelworkers of America, the company is now out of business. I was a member of IBTU, the company now employs more contract workers than employees. So keep strong and believe that the "union" and the government will take care of you.

 Workers that need a union to defend them are absolute lazy, ignorant cry babies. The union was good in the early 1900's but now they are a corrupt, greedy and entirely useless. If you screw up, take it like a man and get fired and get another job. If you are a good employee and do your job, UPS will not fie you. Go ahead and pay your union dues if you are a selfish, whiny, not willing to help out, call in sick, bad mouth UPS every day liitle spopiled UPS man. You better pay your dues so when you deserve to get fired, you can get your job back. No wonder UPS is so screwed UP!!!! Management is intimidated by the old union drivers and let them get away with murder, so then they put all the work on the young drivers that are glad they got a job. They would do it without the "negotiated" wages. You drive a truck....wow! How hard of a job is that!. Any one off the streets that is used to making $6.00 an hour laying asphalt would love to work every day for $10.00 an hour driving around in a UPS truck. Drivers suck. They are spoiled and need to pay someone dues every month so they can be lazy and get out of work.
Thanks and long live the UNION because eventually it will KILL UPS and then none of YOU will have a job.

Hoffa has implemented the largest dues increase in the history of the Teamsters. It was one of a number of broken campaign promises that he made. How about voting him out! Vote The Tom L Slate.
Rescue Lost Votes: Spread the Word About Replacement Ballots

-Campaign HQ

10/21/06

Many Teamsters have misplaced or discarded their ballot, or it got tossed with their junk mail. It's our job to make sure that Teamsters call, get a ballot and cast their vote.

Next, ask every Teamster you see if they've voted yet. When you find a member who doesn't have a ballot—or who isn't sure if they've got a ballot—tell them, "Take a second right now and get a ballot mailed to your home." Dial the number and hand them your phone. They order a ballot, and Leedham gets another vote.
Central Region VP candidate Mark Huckelberry says this tactic is working well with UPS Teamsters in Louisville. "Instead of sending them home and hoping they dial the number on a flyer, I use my cell phone to hook them up with a ballot while it's fresh in their mind. When you take the time to help someone, they'll take the time to vote," Huckelberry said.

Why would that make your day?
Is it because you're in management, the stock would go through the ceiling, you could hire a bunch of $10 south of the border compadres and retire a millionaire many times over?
I bet it would make your day.

If he's a supervisor, he really needs to learn how to spell. My guess is that he's a carwasher who tried to go into driving but couldn't qualify. He sounds awfully bitter.

True enough, but remember majority of these benefits are paid for by the company. The union doesn't give you these benefits. They simply lobby for these benefits (through $3000 chairs and kickbacks )

people can compare this system of subsidy and equalisation as 'socialism'. well, that's what unions are. socialist economic theory. enjoy.
