Your joking right ? You make Germany sound like another Iraq or somwehere in a desert ! ominous threat ? A country the cold hold the soccer woldcup twice in that era, the Summer Olympics, and a few winter olympic games. All under that ominous threat ! Those sportlers had no guns, yet must have had more courage to go to Germany without being armed ! How many shots did your dad fire against Russian soldiers in Germany, or how many Russian planes needed to be escorted down ? Zero, they never stuck their heads over the border, period. No matter how you look at it, after worldwarII, it was peace time. The war ended, peace treaty signed and all. (unlike north and south Korea). And , take a trip to Europe. I mentioned it before on a thread, that I always had to stick up for americans, because they are not liked there. I gave you guys credit. But, I never forget the one time, that my brother and I sat in a german bar, and the germans were cursing about us (in German which I understood), thinking we were americans. After a half an hr of that going on, I finally told my brother I will walk over to that "Stammtisch" (Roundtable where the regulars sit), and explain to them, that we understood everything they were saying about us, and also tell them we are Canadians, not Americans. My brother didn't want me to do that, but I did it , anyways. Needless to say, after I had my quick chat with those Germans, we instantly got invited to their roundtable, and they wanted to know everything about Canada. All the beers and snaps were bought for us ! We did return the favour later on, handing out a round or 2 ourselves. Turned out to be a great evening at the pub !
