Sabotaged load?

No, this isn't about your favorite porn flick.

Have you ever felt like the free-loader.....errrr I mean pre-loader sabotaged your load after you entered in the diad that they didn't do a good job the day before?

I feel like that happened to me a couple weeks ago.
For a while, mine was peeling the spa stickers off and sticking them over my barcodes. Takes me a nanosecond to do a find BC. Still, petty.

B.C. boohoo buster.
All you get when you complain is more of the same. Once I clear out my center isle I go through the load and fix what's got to be fix.

 Same as it ever was.

Move along nothing to see here.

This thread more or less sums up why I refuse to double on preload. I'll do any other area of that sort, but I'm not gonna load trucks. They want me to load things in the truck quickly, but also in sequential order and on the right shelf, and boxes just quickly don't even fit in there well, and I hate the thought that I'm making things hard for the driver. So I just opt not to do it at all.

I don't act like I'm their boss at all. I'm friendly and cordial with all of them. But, when I'm out running off a half dozen misloads in various areas in the metropolitan area they aren't going to get a good score on their report card at the end of the day.
Serious/stupid question: Drivers actually submit evaluations for their preloaders?

I better be extra nice to my drivers then! :D

They do. We are getting load quality reports that either say acceptable/unacceptable and a section with comments. Lately I've been loading 4 cars of 200-350-650-250, a total of 1450 (give or take) in usually 4.5 hours. That's well over 300 PPH.

I do genuinely care about the quality of load, and understand I (partly) determine how a driver's day will pan out. But when a loader is getting screwed, the load gets screwed.

As a sometimes cover preloader, I want to do a good job. Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't. I don't want to misload, I don't want the truck to look like ****. I try to tell drivers whats up with the truck. Bulk stops together, sequential order, PAL number written on the shelved boxes. When the truck diagram shows there are 100+ packages for 6000 section, or bulk stop comes down that is 26 boxes that are 3 feet by 4 feet its not gonna be nice and neat. Everyone know what preload is. What this job is. Get the most amount of volume pushed out, with the fewest amount of people as fast as you can. I have had a bad review, and I don't care. The truck had 430 with a bunch of oversized boxes. Sups saying the only acceptable number of misloads is zero. Yes sir sir! In the end, I punch out. On the clock I am a UPS employee (ie bitch) . Punch out and forget about UPS ten minutes later. I'll do my best, sorry if thats not good enough. Its just a job.

I'm talking about doubling here, a second shift, not my main sort, so when I sign up, I write in the box that I'm just signing up for unload, smalls, and responding. When they call me to double, I ask them for what area, and if they say preload/package cars, then I decline because I didn't sign up for that area. I haven't had yet someone try and pull a fast one where they tell me one area then try and throw me in the preload anyways, I'll cross that bridge if I ever come to it.

It's funny. When I loaded feeders on nights when I worked inside no one ever asked me if I wanted to work preload but then once I went to the sort aisle I was asked at least 4 days a week if I would double & work preload. Weird part is I told them at the time that I had two jobs and couldn't but they continued to ask me everyday saying "I know you're going to say no but we really need you..."

I disagree with ur opinion. Since a few weeks ago, I decided no more screwed loads(no matter what). Today I was so screwed, that my 4 drivers plus 2 helpers & I, were loading for 20 minutes past start time.

I don't know if I'll get a write up 2morrow, but I'm determined not to give a screwed load. If it means lowering to 200 PPH,(So BE IT!)

Can I get in trouble for being too Slow? or will they just move me to unload or small sort?

Thanks,

Depends how often people have to come "bail you out". If it's a once in a while thing, they probably won't think twice about it. If you have to be helped many times a week, then yeah they're probably gonna say something. Of course now that Christmas-time is upon us, I expect more people's loads will be getting friend*. Mine has been screwed every day for the past month or so, but my particular routes are special cases.

Fight the power.
Preloaders have the power to make or break ur day. You guys have to blame dispatch. This is how i see it, Required pph is 250, @ 3h45min of work, = 937 Packages. But on average i'm given 1050-1200 packages. To complete on time I'd have to be pushing 290-330 PPH. (I'm not gonna push it that hard again since i made seniority)
Required pph???!? Last time I checked we don't acknowledge there numbers, never was a loader but I highly dobt they can hold you to a "required pph"

I swear our Preload manager believes if you are not misloading you are not loading fast enough. He has been on vacation this week and misloads are way down.

I had a girl loading my truck, she did an excellant job. She left to go back to school now, I get 3 different loaders in a week and each has his own style. I grade them B, C and,D. I'll help them if they r trying. When the loads are bad I try to get the bulk off in the morning, afterwards, I go to a stop with an air conditioned dock and spend 15-20 sortin, err "looking for misloads" , if the on car sup says anything I tell him. They know who the good loaders are and who is not. These gadgets they give us like key fobs and push button starters are not gonna help much if the driver starts the day already behind with a bad load. Train the pt sups so they can properly train the loaders.

Oh Yeah
Its to the point in our building where I don't even want a loader stepping into my truck. Id almost rather they throw every single box down the middle except for huge boxes and load it myself which I have to regardless. Cant teach a good work ethic on top of the fact they don't train them right. Its not completely the loaders fault as it is the idiot pt supes and dispatch. Ive been saying it for years having loaders is a waste of time, money and benefits. Better off having the driver load his or her own truck. Just have drivers come in 2 hours earlier and put more drivers on the road so we can get off like at 4 or 5. Just have separate drivers with lil light loads do all the pickups or have them drivers start later so other drivers can get off at a decent time. Id come in super early to do that as long as I could get off at like 4 or 5.

Agree, I think we should just get rid of the preloaders and have drivers do the work.

Oh Yeah
Big difference driver loading vs loader. Driver loads no worries all day nice and relaxed no stress. Loader loading, wasting time searching and stressing all day. Nah I don't need that junk lol.
