A suspect is in custody after sources tell CBS 5 Investigates a court security officer was wounded in a drive-by shooting at the federal courthouse in Phoenix on Tuesday.

According to the FBI, the shooting happened around 11:30 a.m., outside the Sandra Day O'Connor U.S. Courthouse in downtown Phoenix. The officer was working for the U.S. Marshals and was checking a UPS truck that was making a delivery into the federal building. The UPS driver was talking to the officer when three bullets hit his truck.

"When he heard the gunshots, he went down to the ground and he heard them hit his vehicle on the passenger side but he also saw one of the federal marshals hit the ground and grab his chest," said Mitchell Gallagher, a UPS union representative.

Hmmmmmm. Wonder what that trying to kill the officer thing was all about (/s). Super glad to read the officer's vest saved him. Hope they throw the book at the shooter.
