I typically don't wear the seatbelt in neighborhoods either. It's a nuisance to do so.

you dear sir, will get hired after peak,, . sad thing is, the real cause of all of this is peak related fatigue / over dispatching and stress due to the 12 hr planned days ,, these issues will never be addressed tho- corporate will fire the driver and do it all over again next yr

collateral damage , sir, it's all factored in.

does someone have an address to send a card or did i miss that post?

thanks

Oh that sucks, im about to go go "driver help," safety is very important. It's a good idea to pay attention to all the safety training methods UPS provides. YOU HAVE TO BE IN SHAPE, is something I realized being slightly overweight but I love exercise which I can't imagine how some overweight people can handle this job without the driver pulling off on a fat butt or someone who doesn't hustle. That said, my first day on the driver helper job I slipped on someone's porch stairs and landed on my ass only breaking my fall with my hand. It hurt but I think the driver saw it, and barely acknowledged it. I was moving so fast I barely felt it. Also, speaking of accidents, I do country "drops," and man are those roads bumpy and full of potholes. The truck feels like it's on hydraulics.

I think thats where you need the seatbelt the most. Driver driving past the house and doing oh :censored2: brake slamming, kids playing in street and such. Not wearing a seat belt while you drive is one thing. On jump seat with the door open is quite another.

I know the driver and the area. Truck was having issues. Was started, and stalled, driver could not brake (with all of his weight!). Helper was in seat and seatbelt was used. 387480_10150468993054883_690569882_8294762_1008248012_n.jpg Helper is still in hospital. To All,

Merry Christmas to All,

Please Join me in a prayer for our fellow worker,

Dear God, O merciful mighty Father in Heaven,

I come before you today with a grateful and expectant heart of Christmas Day, the day that your son came to us to save us. I thank you for this miracle, the miracle of redeeming your people and bringing them back to you. I ask that your will be done as your plan unfolds. Please help those who profess faith in you be a great testimony for you and that their testimony will be doing your will of drawing individuals to you. May your will be done now and always. Help believers to shine the light into this dark world all year and not just as we celebrate the incarnation of you God through your Son Jesus. May all be blessed during this great miracle of life.

Lord Jesus,

I come humbly to you to ask for your intercession, Lord. You know the plans, you know this prayer before I even put my fingers to the keys, you know what your plan is for our brother and fellow worker MH but I know that doesn't absolve me from crying out to you. Lord I ask that you undergird his family and his congregation, I ask that you give his wife the courage and strength and the rest and comfort that can only be found in you. I ask that you shine your light into his situation. Heal his body. Protect his spirit. Help his employer learn from this. Help his coworkers pray for him. Help them encourage him.

Heal his body.

Shower him with the blessings that can only come from you. I could go on and on but Lord I just leave MH in your hands, please hear your people crying out to you. This is a blessed time, in times of trouble and times of blessing this time reminds me that we all fall short of your glory and that we are truly blessed that you sent your Son to redeem us. And we trust that this dreadful situation will ultimately be for your glory and for the good of MH, as you said in your word that you will work out all things for the good of those who love you and MH's love for you is clearly evident in his desire to be a man after your heart.

Please let me accept your will for him, for me and for all mankind in the manner that Jesus accepted your will for him to go to the cross for us. Thank You Jesus, Thank You Father God, I ask this in and through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Lord, let me not forget the driver and the driver's family Lord, be with them comfort them, guide them and give them strength and courage to persevere through this difficult time. Meet them precisely at their point of need and help do a mighty work through them and this situation during this Christmas time and always, may I accept your will for them.

May God Bless and keep all who have joined me in this prayer

Jesus is the Truth, the Way, the Life.

May you find it in Him.

Merry Christmas to All!

Sincerely,
I

Prayers to all involved. I hope everything turns out for the good. Such a tragic story. On a partially related note, I had an issue just yesterday with my power steering. A small leak somewhere in the system had depleted all the fluid and I drove the truck back to the shop to get it refilled. I learned something that I didn't know while talking to the mechanic. As he was checking the system and refilling the fluid he asked me if I was having trouble with the hand brake. I told him it that yes in fact I was having problems. It just didn't seem to hold the truck even though I had adjusted the brake as tight as I could. He told me that the power steering fluid level also affected the hand brake system and that being out of fluid is very dangerous. I had no idea that was the case. Just wanted to post that in case others might not be aware of that as well. I'm in a 1995 P1000. Glad I brought the truck back to the center even on one of the heaviest days of the year. <phew>

OK, I'm looking at the photo and judging by the tire size I think the car is an older high-step GMC P-10 series 110-111xxx with manual steering and a 4-speed stick shift.

I seem to recall those cars having electrical-assist power brakes, and if the motor wasnt running the brakes wouldnt work worth a damn. I can remember missing a shift on a hill and stalling it, and then starting to roll backwards even though I was stepping on the brake pedal with all of my strength. Lots of beeping from the dashboard, and a humming noise, but no real stopping power.

I also know those old 4 speeds could be a real bitch to get into gear if you were rolling at any speed. If your speed didnt match the rpms that the engine would turn in the gear you were trying to select, it would just grind and stay in neutral and you couldnt get it into gear even with the clutch pedal floored.

So perhaps what happened here was that the driver missed a shift near the top of a hill and stalled it. Or maybe the engine was having issues and it just died. Either way, he then he started rolling down the hill and with no engine he couldnt stop it with the brakes or get it into gear. At that point, maybe he panicked and forgot about the emergency brake, or the brake was defective, or it was set too loose to be able to stop the car on a steep hill by itself. I do know that those old cars had an emergency brake that was adjustable, and in order to get it tight enough to hold a fully loaded car on a hill you had to adjust it to where it would wear your arm out to pull on it 200+ times a day.

We were told at the PCM that the helper was ejected from the vehicle, but apparently that was not the case. Judging by the photo it looks like he was belted and sitting in the seat, and the car hit the tree on the passenger side and they had to cut him out of there.

Prayers for all involved.

soberups,

Based upon your view of the car, what type of passenger restraint system would have been in the car if it is the type you have mentioned?

I realize this is only your opinion based upon the photo that has been posted.

Sincerely,
I
