i was hanging out with the homeboy in the "greatest country on earth" (at least at a few things). he works in san fran in a medicine start up, and anyways he told me how he got a bad case of the flu, was dehydrated and whatever, and so anyways he when to the emergency room. it cost him $900 for an over night stay where they essentially just gave him water, and thats with the insurance covering 80% of the cost LOL.

he also told me you can see a specialist right away, you dont even need to be referred by a doctor.

if you go the emergency room in canada, it wouldnt cost you anything especially if you dont earn an income, and you would get treated based on a combination of how long youve been waiting and how severe it is i believe. also, our healthcare costs almost half as much as yours, so we save that way in terms of efficiency.

So why are so many fine Canadian citizens coming to the USA for specialized medical care ?

Water? He was most likely "re-hydrated" using IV fluids.

you would dehydrate by the time your turn to be treated arrived. I imagine the discount is even better If you're dead?

We know a lady who is waiting for brain surgery right here in the good ol' USA. I think this idea of "walk in and get treated" is a pretty big myth in this country.

You have to get out more .

Head to a border crossing station and bring a clipboard with paper . Tell everyone there you are doing a survey and ask the people why they are crossing over .

you first.

i would think considering america's healthcare is the most expensive in the world, that alot of canadians couldnt afford it, especially considering we have had stagnant wages since 1989, and currently have record debt to income.

i got emergency care 2 times and was treated immediately. it cost me nothing. my dad had a tumor and got it cut out in no time just recently. i heard one story at work how it takes a while to get some kind of spinal / nerve treatment. i also saw on the "news" maybe 10 years ago how there was crowding in the hospitals.

its not a perfect system. our drug costs are lower than yours but still way higher than europe. government is defunding the system because private corporations want to profit off of it like yours, and because they cut taxes on the rich and corporations.

ask your friends who have lived in other developed countries for a considerable time what their opinion is on the other healthcare systems, and would they prefer it over yours?
