The only good thing about being a swing is you're exempt from the "draft list", or being forced to work a double shift or Sat.

The schedule is Monday-Saturday, with the day off TBD. Also, what is a double shift? Working 16 hours straight?

Not at any of the stations in the district I was in, and I worked at 3 stations over the years. This was in the Eastern time zone if it matters.

I would imagine so. The station sort starts about 6:30am and leave the building by 8am on a normal day. PM truck leaves the station for the ramp at 9:30pm.

Normally 11-12 hours. Federal law prohibits working more than 14 from punch-in to punch-out.

Have you ever been a courier before, or off the street hire? Being a swing and never a courier is not recommended as you will be bounced around on a different route almost daily. You will also probably be working both shifts from week to week and have a different day off every week. If the station has DRA then you will have a MUCH easier time as a new swing.

Is that a new policy? I know when I was swing they scheduled me for 4 splits one week. Fortunately I had an offer that said different. That didn't go over very well. Lol.

I checked manual recently because I was po'd about my schedule and it says specifically 2 splits a week max at least in swing driver secton. I suppose they can always claim "operational needs" supersede policy

I've been doing this too long. As much as I've tried, I just can't force myself to shut off the rational part of my brain and follow it. I WAD in other ways. Lol.

The only time I've had to run a dbl, heck I can't think of the last time. But usually management, which I'm surprised by will give me a heads up a week ahead of schedule.

Schedule should be posted every Wednesday. We don't have any swings who work Saturday as a normal day so I wouldn't know how your days off will work. Usually in November and decemeber even as a swing your schedule won't change because no one is on vacation and your basically over flow for 2 months

Usually a week like he said, only time I work a dbl is when a pm route is open by either personal day or vacation on the same route area as the am route.

You'd get plenty of hours. More than you want. You would probably take a section off a blown out residential route.

By blown out residential route he means every route in the building.

But yeah way more hours those months than you might like, part timers work 50 hours a week that time of year

Not quite. You are required to be off the road 14 hours after your punch-in. Company policy is you have to punch out after 14 hours.
