Teamsters solicit shareholders to oust Smith as FedEx chairman

Memphis Business Journal

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters have petitioned FedEx Corp. shareholders to support the union’s proposal to remove Fred S as chairman of the Memphis-based shipping giant.
In a letter to FedEx (NYSE: FDX) shareholders, Teamsters officials said Smith was “incapable of providing rigorous, independent oversight” of the board because of his dual duties as CEO and chairman.
The Teamsters have been actively seeking to organize FedEx mechanics and FedEx Ground drivers.
FedEx Ground drivers are currently classified as independent contractors, a classification the union disputes.
In a statement to Memphis Business Journal in July, FedEx said its employees have, over the years, “repeatedly rejected third-party representation” and shown no desire for union representation.

An emerging thought - whatcha think about this?
Republicans within UPS are in a Win-Win situation.
If McCain wins their party wins but FedEx stays as is.
If Obama wins their party loses but FedEx independant contractors will be classified as employess and UPS thrives!
Or is it a Lose - Lose situation?

Is that glass half-full or half-empty?

Well,

I guess the only thing that we have to look forward to is the fact that he has to mandatorily step down in the year 2016. In the company by laws, when any company officer reaches the age of 72 years old, they must surrender their seat. This iniative was enacted and voted on by all of the original members (including Fred) and passed.

Getting rid of Smith would be great. Life here in "Pottersville" would be a lot better without him.
Fred S and his band of merry men are pulling a reverse Robin Hood.Robbing from the poor, his employees and giving to the rich all of his cronies.Oust the corrupt regime and put competent, qualified people in charge.Their incompetence is costing Fedex millions of dollars in lawsuits and salaries for and excessive amount of corporate VIPS
