Moreluck, I think you hit it on the head about the Teamsters. Until Fedex is on the same playing field as UPS it is hard for some to embrace them the same as other UPSers. Of course, now the FDX stock price is finally coming down because of all the problems that have surfaced recently. Rates still play a significant role in what happens at UPS. If FDX were Teamsters then their rates would probably be higher and they would have to be more creative to make a buck. Maybe they would have to curtail all that advertising!!! No more FedEx this or that!! There are drivers out there that see how much they (FDX) affect UPS....AND there are those drivers that only think of how increased volume affects them. They don't see the big picture. There is another thread that talks about what it takes to build new facilities and it relates to a lot of what is being said right here. New facilities-vehicles-equipment ....ohhhh new Teamsters also are the direct result of increased business. If the competitive advantage swings our way than the growing pains will once again start and that will be a good thing! I was there in '73, when Federal Express started and I watched some of my volume slip away to this new start up company who copied everything we did including the account books and account numbers as well as the COD tags etc. I wondered how they got away with it. UPS was to worried about being considered a monopoly and the lawsuits that go with that (as well as the possible breakup ...like Standard Oil) to do anything to make waves. I also watched Roadway implode. Little did I know back then! So - I guess I can understand why Tie feels like he does but I also know that today is a different world....There is an old saying that goes something like this.... "keep your friends close and your enemies closer!"
