The Jersey City Board of Education voted last week not to close schools for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, one of the most important holidays for Muslims.

School board members in New Jersey made their decision Thursday despite appeals from Muslim attendees who showed up to advocate that the board change the school schedule.

At one point, things became so heated that an official urged security to “take charge” of the situation. At least one person was seen on video being escorted from the meeting.

“We feel alienated from the Board of Education, we feel alienated from this system,” Omar Abouelkhair told WNBC-TV.

“We’re going to be the majority soon,” another said.

I wonder how many days schools are closed for Christian holidays in countries like Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Qatar, etc.... Or even Israel?

If you're gonna be fair schools shouldn't close for any religious holidays. Parents have the right to keep their kids home from school on those days to observe whatever the beliefs are.

Exactly. God, you are one smart guy. However, the usual suspects here would be fine if schools only closed for Christian holidays, ignoring the obvious favoritism and ignorance of separation of church and state.

Space God is quite displeased with you.

The school breaks around christian holidays haven't been institutionally about the religion for a long time. Christmas break is now winter break, easter break is now spring break.... there's no need to even talk about it anymore. Sure every Christmas we'll here a little bit from Fox News about the "war on Christmas", but it's a last gasp, they lost, it's not even worth talking about anymore. Consider it a win and move on.

As long as O'Reilly can still get mileage out of it, we'll be hearing about the War on Christmas.

I won't purchase anything in a store that refuses to say...."Merry Christmas" to me. I've spotted gorgeous lighted decorations, but passed them up because they read "Happy Holidays".

My Calendar for Jewish holidays is Andy Cohen on 'Watch What's Happening Live'. Guest Sandra Bernhardt gave the benediction and Rabbi Schmooli was the bartender.

Tip of the hat to Pope Francis for expressing what more and more theologians and philosophers, even some preachers are expressing privately and a few dare to publicly. When one explores pre-Constantine orthodoxy and the early gnostic christian traditions such as what is expressed in the Gospel of Thomas, one might think that Pope Francis has been doing some reading in the Library of Nag Hammadi. I suspect even Jesus is smiling with approval right now while fundamentalist, literalist christians are wailing and gnashing teeth. I see a great conversation coming among humanity about such issues that I for one will welcome.

If ALL MUSLIMS are radical, out for blood, religionists, why are so many people from Islamic controlled areas of the Middle East fleeing the very areas where such type muslims are seizing and exerting power?

Maybe the ones that are fleeing are trying to escape the forced conformation of the ".....muslims [that] are seizing and exerting power?".

You're an intelligent person wkmac.......I'm surprised you would ask this.

Ever heard of "terror"?

Ya think?

Afterthought:
Is this a trick question?

Logic 101:
Does your antecedent presuppose your consequence?
If A then B......or
If A and B.......not B.......therefore A?

I'm trying to keep up.......I really am.

It would seem so it doth appear.

Guess I did a poor job of assuming my audience.

Sorry!
