The UPS Foundation Commits Over $10 Million to Humanitarian Relief and Global Road Safety

Focus areas for donations include emergency preparedness, disaster relief response/recovery and road safety.</p><p></p><p>In 2014, the UPS Humanitarian Relief & Resilience program provided global relief partners with funds, in-kind support and supply chain expertise to support preparedness, emergency response and recovery capabilities. UPS provided staging capacity for relief items to the World Food Programme (WFP), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Inc. (CDC), and other partners, to help the humanitarian relief community respond to the Ebola epidemic. UPS also helped address the needs of displaced refugees by transporting hundreds of thousands of winter supplies to Syrian refugees, and by leveraging UPS technologies to strengthen distribution tracking of food and vital supplies for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).</p><p></p><p>Among the key initiatives that will be supported in 2015 are:</p><p></p><ul> <li data-xf-list-type="ul"><strong>UNHCR - </strong>Expanding UPS Relief Link, a humanitarian supply chain solution for tracking food and critical relief supplies.</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul"><strong>UNICEF - </strong>Strengthening immunization supply chains and building country level tracking capabilities.</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul"><strong>United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) - </strong>Enhancing education and planning to help communities reduce risks and support for the UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Japan.</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul"><strong>U.S. Chamber Foundation - </strong>Enhancing disaster preparedness for small and medium businesses.</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul"><strong>World Food Programme - </strong>Conducting logistics capacity assessments in at-risk countries and expanding training for UN Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD).</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul"><strong>GAVI Alliance - </strong>Helping to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of vaccine supply chains through enhanced training.</li> </ul><p>"Enhancing the safety of communities by leveraging our core competencies and our philanthropy is a force multiplier," said Eduardo Martinez, president of The UPS Foundation. "Grants are critical in providing funding to address community safety, but at UPS, we go much farther than writing a check.
