Thinking about quitting.

Well one thing you are only 3 weeks in the first few weeks are hard, you are lucky some folks get stuck in unload for a few months before they move to preload, after about 6 weeks, you'll have it down to a science and you'll be fine, and you'll feel decently compensated.
Just think of it as a paid workout(it makes it easier to swallow the low wage) it's only a few hours a day, get your workout, get money go on with your day.

Dracula

Package Car is cake compared to this...
Its the low guys in feeders who are signing up for package that need more money for food and wife. They also have been on call for years and are tired of not making progress on the seniority list.
Shifting is only 8 hours and lots of low guys get stuck in yard making no money. Most of these guys are off the street so they never paid their dues in package.

The runners who skip lunch are a problem but the folks that go home all the time and allow routes to be eliminated and allow UPS to divide that work on several routes is really a bigger problem.

Why put on the brown clown and drive to work and then go home with no pay and watch the View or Jerry Springer when you could be putting money into your 401k. That loss of 401k contributions can be huge over time.
The funny thing about UPS is the culture has never really changed over the years. You could have the same conversation 30 years ago and older guys would complain about the new younger guys doing this or that.
Somehow someway UPS just gets it done and that's the culture of UPS. YOU GET YOUR ASS OUT OF BED AND JUST DO IT!

The union issues will be figured out by America at some point. The wing nuts and Republicans have been doing a smear campaign against unions for years and even RYAN during his RNC speech took a shot at teachers unions forgetting to mention all the outsourcing Corp. America has done to destroy our economy for high school age kids and the boomerang generation by moving their jobs to other countries like Robme did at Bain Capitol.
NOW WATCH! MY LAST STATEMENT WILL NOW BRING THE TROLLS OF THE BROWN CAFE! Ready! Set! Goooooo!

Hey, I agree completely with your last statement. What has troubled me is how many union members vote for politicians who will kill unions in favor of corporate America. I've vowed to skip the politico arguments, because facts get lost in political arguments, but it sucks that working people vote for politicians who work against their interests.

Yes I don't understand union guys I know who vote Republican. Its insane to vote for the very people that want to take all the unions down and eliminate any chance for the middle class to get a living wage.
Yes talking politics is no fun these days and this website seems to be over run by some wing nuts. I come on here now and then to check out work issues but there are WAY TOO MANY FANS OF FOX NEWS ON HERE!

The Browncafe used to be much better.

Just for you and another strongly democrat member of BC I tried an experiment. I watched the local news one evening.

I learned about the shooting on the north side of town, what the local high school football team did Friday night and where gas can be purchased at the lowest price in town. None of these are earth shattering, world changing events. "Fox Spews" (not my words) tells interested people what is going on in other parts of the world that could and will have an effect on America.

As for your narrow-minded concern about the "nation vs union" dichotomy (OOPS! I used a big word), at some point you need to concern yourself with the stability of our nation that has a president that fancies himself as a messiah destined to save the world and seems to be pandering to the muslim masses with just a small touch of socialism/marxism.

Try to get involved in something bigger than yourself (like our nations welfare) and a little less involved in yourself and "what's in it for me?".
I hope "....at some point...." comes sooner rather than later.

I was talking to someone on my PD today and he told me he has been with UPS for 7 years and is making 15 and hour. He is still busting his ass daily and with 7 years towards a profession that's pretty ****ty pay no matter how you look at it that makes working towards "seniority" a joke. Woopty doo about the benefits your going to need them quite a bit after you mess up your back and shoulders. UPS is not a workout I am sick of hearing that BS I look worse now then when I started as many people have already told me. The one good thing I have learned from this company is how important a education is. Yes I can do the work but do I want to do it for 10 years to make a mediocre wage in the end and ruin my body hell no. There is a fine line between being a dedicated worker and just being a dip**** or a companies bitch. I do respect you guys that do this for years on in you bust your ass and are hard workers.

Yes the hard part of putting in time at UPS is the daily grind of the job and routine. Just remember in The UPS search for your excellence you have to give 100% and work safe. After that take a deep breath and realize that UPS will always make you feel like your not doing enough. They will always tell you we cannot afford to pay you this much $ even though we are making record profits. Even though managers with 20+ years have accumulated several hundred thousand(really much more) in UPS stock. UPS will cry poor as they have for decades. Love it or hate it. UPS is a great company because of all UPSERS who stay and are the glue.

This is THE UPS CULTURE and once you learn it staying long term will be so much easier.

I think it is stupid to say because we are not watching the same news all the time, we are the problem. yes I watch Fox News, and I listen to Liberal radio, all....day.....long. I like the hope and the fire I hear from conservative radio. I also will vote republican. If you think the democrats are all for the unions ask, the people at GM in my town who used to make 30.00 an hour, and got to keep their job and make 12.00 now, with no pension guarantee. I dont know whos fault that was but I kow it was not GWB, and probably not BOS, but................but the union did not stand tall. If the economy were better, they may get an increase. Biden was here Friday, he got 400 people in a strong democrat town with poverty out the wazoo. Why? I can only say its been held by democrats for 50 yrs, and our mayor left to be the car czar..........A black guy well respected. LEFT, to work for Obama, and what has that done for the UAW auto worker, fricking nothing. I dont think the democrat party has done a thing for the worker. Just like the oldsmobile commercial, (oh wait they dont make them anymore) this is not your grandpas Oldsmobile, this is not your daddys democratic party.

Under the terms of the new contract for GM workers signed last September, the starting wage will go up from 14 to 17 bucks an hour.

I got a job at UPS and have been there three weeks. I am not going to lie so far I absolutely hate it. I am a college student and don't plan on staying with the company. I was just looking for a decent part time job but the pay and the work sucks. After gas I bring home $70 a week because of the drive. I used to lift weights alot it's a huge passion of mine and I can't do that anymore because if I do before I go to work I am too tired to be fast enough for the shift. All this bull**** about UPS getting you in shape is just that. Bull****. I guess if you look like a twinkie before you start it's true. I am completely capable of doing the work but there is no incentive, the tuition program is a way to trap students it's pretty damn obvious. Where I am at it takes 14-15 years to become a driver. The last company I worked for I was with 5 years and I really hate to quit after being at UPS such a short time I feel bad about it I am not a quitter but it's just not worth it. Not sure what I should do at this point.

Maybe you should look around and try to find a replacement job first before you just up and quit, you should always be working on a plan "B" Most of us don't likw our jobs but we get use to them and we like the money so it's tuff to quit with out a back up plan. Just keep youy eyes open you might spot a great opportunity right under your nose.:wink2:
