The UPS Store announces $3 million donated since launching the program in 2008 and continued efforts to provide gift of reading this holiday season

In an effort to help deliver the gift of reading to underprivileged children in the U.S., The UPS Store® has launched its annual holiday donation drive for the Toys for Tots Literacy Program.
Participating The UPS Store locations across the U.S. will sell donation cards to benefit Toys for Tots Literacy Program, a year-round initiative of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. One hundred percent of each dollar donated helps purchase books for less fortunate children in local communities throughout the U.S.

Since working with Toys for Tots to launch the Literacy Program in 2008, UPS and The UPS Store network have raised more than $3 million dollars to purchase books for children who need the resources most.

The Literacy Program offers the nation's most economically disadvantaged children direct access to books and educational resources. This helps enhance their ability to read and communicate effectively, enabling them to compete academically and succeed in life.

"Education is key to helping our children become successful adults. Supporting the Toys for Tots Literacy Program is a way for The UPS Store to make a positive impact by helping children break the cycle of poverty through literacy and education," said Tim Davis, president of The UPS Store, Inc.

According to research by Scholastic, children who grow up in homes where books are plentiful go further in school than those who don't. Children from traditionally low-education families can do as well as children from high-education families if they have access to books at home. The Toys for Tots Literacy Program continues to not only deliver the gift of reading, but also hope of a future of accomplishment.

"Our nation's less fortunate children deserve the resources to learn and experience the joy of reading," said LtGen. Pete Osman, USMC (Ret), President and CEO of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. "The Toys for Tots Literacy Program provides the gift of a book, which can leave a lasting impact on a child, even after the holidays are over."

In addition to donating in-center, customers can go to The UPS Store Facebook page to make a donation directly to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and learn more about the Toys for Tots Literacy Program. The UPS Store locations will continue additional fundraising events throughout the year, including a coin box program for customers to donate their spare change.
