In the spirit of the day. Why do we celebrate cinco de mayo?

For Mexico, it's in remembrance of a battle. Can't remember which one, though...

For the US, it's basically St. Patrick's Day in May-- all's we're doin' is gettin' drunk.

You want a toe? I can get you a toe.
Actually in Mexico only one town really celebrates it. Mexico defeated the French at the battle of Puebla. Keeping the French from getting much needed supplies and support to the confederacy.

This lead to the north winning the war and is why cinco de mayo is celebrated much more in America than Mexico.

Deplorable.
The answers from my 5 baseball questions this morning:

1. Allie Clark. Clark played for the 1947 WS Champion Yankees and wore the #3. The following year, 1948, he won a World Series ring with the Cleveland Indians and the Yankees retired the #3 in honor of Babe Ruth.

2. Moses Fleetwood Walker. In school, you may have been mislead into believing that Jackie Robinson was the first black baseball player. Not even close. On May 1, 1884, Walker, a catcher, made his debut with the Toledo Blue Stockings. He played in 42 (quite the numerical coincidence!) games that year.

3. Willie Mays. The Say Hey Kid was just a 20-year old rookie in 1951 when Thompson hit his famous home run; and he had the best seat in the house that day.

4. Al Kaline. "Mr. Tiger" collected 399 home runs in his hall of fame career, but never once did he eclipse 30 in one season.

5. Roberto Clemente. "The Great One" accomplished this ridiculous feat on 7-25-1956 at cavernous Forbes Field in Pittsburgh. While the list of inside the park grand slams is surprisingly long, only 1 (Clemente's) ended a game, giving the Bucco's a 9-8 victory over the Cubs that day.
