UPS Airlines and its fleet of "brown tails" winging to and from the massive Worldport package-sorting hub at Louisville International Airport are an inescapable sight in the Louisville skies.

But before 1988, there was no UPS Airlines -- only a stitched-together collection of 99 planes flown by pilots from four carriers. Friday marked the 20th anniversary of the first flight of the airline that changed United Parcel Service -- and Louisville, its airline's headquarters.
