Expanded Facility Will Accommodate Increased Shipping Volume UPS announced today a $17.5 million expansion of its delivery center in Menifee, Calif., to handle increased shipping volume from customers throughout the region. The expansion, which more than doubles the existing space, will open in late September. In addition to expedited package processing capability supported by advanced technology and conveyor systems, the facility will have expanded vehicle parking and an enlarged UPS Customer Center. "We're ready with more capacity to serve customers' eastward growth in Southern California's Inland Empire," said Noel Massie, president of the South California District. "The growth of warehouse and distribution operations, as well as residential construction in the region, has necessitated the need to expand our facilities and operations." The expanded facility will increase processing capacity from 4,000 pieces to 10,000 pieces per day. The interior space also can be reconfigured to support increased demand around the peak holiday shopping season. Advanced technology equipment that can scan, measure and weigh packages, and affix labels will accelerate processing and increase sorting efficiency. The expanded space will cover 49,407 square feet and include 10 tractor-trailer doors and room for 108 delivery vehicles. Nearly 35 delivery routes were transferred from the nearby Riverside and San Bernardino facilities to serve customers more efficiently and position the region for continued growth. UPS purchased the building in 2007, along with adjacent land, to serve the southern portion of Riverside County, including Menifee, Murrieta, Perris and Temecula. The new facility increases the number of employees to 236, a gain of 19 permanent jobs. Hiring is underway for new positions and for the upcoming seasonal demand.
