The Human Resources Department of UPS has been cited by a respected trade publication as among the top five in the nation. Human Resource Executive magazine, in a scorecard ranking of HR functions at the companies included on the FORTUNE "Most Admired" list, placed UPS at No. 4. Apple was cited as No. 1, followed by the Goldman Sachs Group and Nike. The remainder of the Top 10 included Procter & Gamble, Google, Walt Disney, Intel, Cisco Systems and Amazon. The magazine engaged the Hay Group to calibrate a "Most Admired for HR" list and the consulting firm did so by building a scorecard based on four criteria from the broader FORTUNE rankings: management quality, product/service quality, innovation and people management. UPS received a numerical score of 8.218 compared to 8.64 for No. 1 Apple. The magazine said what really marks all the top corporate HR departments is a commitment "to monitoring and managing employee engagement." "A big reason that 'Most Admired' companies are where they are, reputation-wise, is because of their focus on people," said Mark Royal, a senior consultant with the Hay Group. In people-centric organizations, he added, the top leaders never stop delivering clear and direct communication to their employees that they can - and should - thrive in the organization
