Annual rankings recognize global companies for sustainability, employee relations and philanthropic excellence UPS (NYSE: UPS) today announced that the company has been named to Corporate Responsibility (CR) Magazine's annual list of the "100 Best Corporate Citizens." The program audits and ranks Russell 1000 companies across seven corporate and social responsibility initiatives, including environmental activity, climate change, human rights, employee relations, corporate governance, philanthropy and financial performance. Ranked No. 28, UPS's inclusion marks the sixth straight year the company has appeared on the prestigious list and its third top 30 placement. CR Magazine recognized UPS's sustainability efforts, ranking the company fourth in the Climate Change category and eleventh in the Environment category, which together compose more than one-third of the scoring criteria. UPS expanded its efforts to reduce carbon emissions and implement more efficient route planning during CR Magazine's evaluation period, including expanding use of its pioneering ORION (On-Road Integrated Optimization and Navigation) route-optimization platform. When fully deployed in 2016, ORION is expected to reduce by 100 million miles annually the distance driven by its drivers, resulting in a 100,000 metric ton reduction in CO2 emissions, equivalent to taking 21,000 passenger cars off the road for a year. UPS also operates one of the largest private alternative fuel fleets in the U.S. with nearly 5,500 alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles worldwide. "UPS is committed to continuously improving the environments in which our employees, partners and customers live and work," said Rhonda Clark, UPS chief sustainability officer and vice president of environmental affairs. "We are honored to be recognized among such prestigious companies as a global corporate and social responsibility leader by CR Magazine." In compiling its annual "100 Best Corporate Citizens" list, CR Magazine partners with the Corporate Responsibility Association (CRA) to evaluate publicly available information from eligible companies across more than 300 performance measure and disclosure data criteria.
