UPS releases 2009 rate hike - Reuters

United Parcel Service Inc, the world's largest package delivery service, said on Friday it plans to raise its prices next year.

The company plans to increase its rates for ground shipments by about 5.9 percent, with air shipments becoming on average 4.9 percent more expensive. The increased air rate reflects a 6.9 percent hike in the base rate less a 2 percent reduction in the fuel surcharge, UPS said.

The new rates will take effect on Jan. 5, it said.
