Vacations

Harley Rider

34 yrs & done!
The wife and I usually head down to Destin Florida once or twice a year. I have tried to get her to change up and do something else but she loves the beach.

I am starting a two week vacation tonight. Next week I am insulating and drywalling my shop. The next week I am building two flagstone patios. Does this sound like a vacation? Anyone want to come and help?

No reason for gas to be this high. Boycott the vacation resorts or keep it to short trips. Lets put the sqeeze on the oil barons. :whiteflag:
Tie,how would this help anything?
Unless the resorts were owned by the oil barons.

I like to go to the Carribean in the winter to escpe the cold. My favorite so far there is probably St. Thomas. V.I.. London was my favorite non-Carribean vacation.

For total relaxation - Bora Bora is by far one of the best locations. My Avatar is not just a pic but the symbol and hut where my wife & I stayed when I retired last year.

Home away from home, Maui Marriott on Kaanapali Beach, - One month a year!

Romance - History and reconnecting with your loved one - Venice Italy

Majesty of the wilderness - Just about anywhere in Alaska - but sitting on top of a glacier where they form is the closest I have been to the heavens.

Oh! Let's not forget everyday living when not on vacation - how can you beat the red rocks of Sedona AZ!! LOL!

I do enjoy the view. One of my personal favorite is driving down Dry Creek Rd after it has snowed. After you get out past the houses, out towards Long and Boynton Cyns. I love the red of the rocks, the green of the trees and the white snow. It is absolutely beautiful.

I agree Tie. Some people say that because alternative fuels are right around the corner that oil companies are worried and are charging so much for gas so as to make as much money as possible before gas will become a thing of the past. Others say it is Wall Street that is manipulating the gas prices. Whatever the reason it is a disgrace.

Gas is high, but I don't picture in my lifetime being overrun by Honda Hybrids or Toyota Prius any time soon. We love our cars. Americans won't change for a long time, if ever.

I don't know, Moreluck, I think Americans will change their driving habits as gas gets more expensive. I feel sorry for those that make less money than us when they have to pay $50. to fill their tanks. (Or more likely, $10 or $15 just for a couple of gallons.)

The prices are high because OPEC is charging whatever they want for oil because they have it and we do not. We need to be drilling for our own oil and stop relying on other countries for it. Their supply does not meet our demand for the product so the prices are high. If we had our own, it would cost less and they would also be forced to lower their prices as well.

My own backyard in Florida, we just hop on the bike cruise down A1A make stops at Ft Laud bch, Seminole Hard Rock Casino, South Beach, then head down US1 thru Key Largo, stop and have a rum runner in Islemarada, grab a seafood lunch and a Key West Ale in Marathon, then head on over the 7 mile bridge south to Key West for a killer sunset and a good cigar. Next day head back to the main land and cut thru the everglades via "Alligator Alley" to the west coast and stop by the Ft Myers pier for some seafood gumbo and then cruise on over to Sannibel/Captiva Island for some Dolphin watching and trade riding motor bikes on asphalt to riding water bikes(jet ski's). After a rough day of sun and fun and your main concern is having that racoon face from wearing your sun glasses all day, the next morning is head north on I-75 to Tampa/St Pete to Busch Gardens. After a day of frolicking in the beer tent, animals and water rides we head east on I-4 to the Disney/Universal theme parks. After 2 days of waiting in lines, depleting my wallet, and people watching these strange Europeans it was time to head east again on I-4 to Destination Daytona. By now our a$$es are killing us and asking ourselves how are we gonna make it back home. Somehow, we got the energy the next day but decided to take it slow thru the rural farmlands in middle of the state that took us to the top of Lake Okeechobee. Crusing around the perimeter of the lake was very relaxing and stress free than I-95 or the Turnpike.....Just what the :censored2: doctor ordered. Any how, I might sound like a travel ad, but we are fortunate to have awesome vacations right here in the good ole' US of A.

They say most of our oil consumpton is from oil drilled in the USA. Our second largest source is from Canada, with Saudi Arabia being 3rd.

I took a spill on a mountain bike, I had the old sytle toe baskets on the pedals, & it was raining pretty hard, I made a too fast right turn & you know how you dont get as wet when you go really fast part of physics (seemed right to me at the time).
I touched the front brake just a bit to slow down in the turn, the front tire kicked out to the left, but I couldnt get my right foot out of the basket to catch my fall. The femur shattered like glass, The dr said I'd always have a limp, & listed a lot of activities that I wouldnt be able to do anymore, including a driver. I just wasn't ready for that, so I did phsyical therapy at home sometimes 5 times a day (daytime television really sux). When thought I'd healed up enough and ready, I pestered the dr to remove the pin that went into my hip, and viola! 7 months & 2 weeks later I was back at the same old job as a driver. I still have & always will have the big rod inside the femur, but no limp, I still can run, rock climb, mountain climb, ski, mountain & dirt bike, and breeze through airports, so life is really back to norms.
A year later a buddy of mine climed & skied right off the summit of a local 11,000' mtn, I sent the doc a pic of that, just to show him what a great job he did. Two weeks later did another 10,800' mtn the same way. All back to normal, except after this last vacation, I noticed it took me a day (yesterday) just to rest up, but I attribute that one to getting older. That's the 11,000' summit ready to ski (me on the right). Just goes to show that if you have it in your head that your not ready, then you will find the path.

Toe baskets=baskets of death. If you like being able to pull get toe clips much safer.

I spent last week in Moab Utah, best mountain bike trails I have ever been on. Found one slickrock trail that was like 1-2 miles of straght downhill, so bumpy that the gaskets around the shiny part of the front shocks started to melt from the heat. I would have gone to Arches National Park next door but no mountain biking there, except roads, which isnt really mountain biking. If by body isn't too broken when I get old and retire I think I'd like to live there.

I saw 3 different UPS trucks there, it's like 3 hours from salt lake city so I wonder if they are all satelite drivers? I heard from a friend not to go during jeep week, I bet the Moab drivers must loathe jeep week.

I agree with anywhere in the Caribbean but St Thomas is the best. Great beaches, shopping and outstanding restaurants. Just remember to drive on the wrong side of the road.
