Annoy a liberal today. Hit them with facts.
Now you're just fighting cold, hard numbers.
Figures that the 1st thing you think about cutting are programs where people actually paid into them.

And it also figures that you would not mention welfare, food stamps, the size of congress, their salaries and staff, foreign aid, cabinet departments and government official's pension costs.

Actually it's $2 trillion as of today.

'Today' being the operative word.

$2,000,000,000,000 doesn't include ancillary costs such as benefits for disabled veterans, etc.

The costs of the Vietnam and first Iraq wars have ballooned much greater than any prediction at the time. I can't imagine the second Iraq war and the Afghanistan war will be any different.

If you pay into a program, and continue to vote for people that piss away your money, are you not getting what you deserve? Is it right to expect future generations to pay for the failure of your own?

You cry about the national debt but are too much much of a coward to accept cuts to the three programs that account for the vast majority of it. Man up or shut up. Sure, let's cut welfare and food stamps, and corporate welfare for that matter. The cost of congressional staffs, pensions, cabinet departments are a drop in the bucket.... but ok sure let's cut them too.

I'm willing to accept the cuts you propose, you are the one who is unwilling to accept cuts to the programs that actually create the majority of the debt. Truth is, you are far more interested in a BS talking point to bash your opposing political team than you are addressing national debt. Typical neocon.

You also have to include some costs placed in the Dept. of State budget and Dept. of Energy among others as these monies pertain to military operations. Energy oversees a lot of the nuclear arms force for example. Commerce and Transportation also (Lockheed among others for example gets many bennies there).

When added up, it will be even more than $2tril. Eisenhower was correct in warning about the Military Industrial Complex and the illusionists in Washington are masters at playing the shell game with taxpayer dollars. It should be added that in Fiscal Year 2012', the latest year we have full data, total gross tax collections by Internal Revenue for Year 2012' was just over $2.5 trillion so I think to argue that none of the monies spent in any capacity by the military was borrowed is a bit dishonest to say the least. The idea of small/limited gov't doesn't turn a blind eye from anyone when it comes to the chopping block.

The country needs another Bill Clinton to balance the budget and start paying back the debt again.
Bill Clinton didn't balance anything. Didn't you learn about government divisions and responsibility?

Congress spends the money. Congress is in charge of the money. The REPUBLICAN CONGRESS balanced the budget in the Clinton years.

I don't want those programs saved. They are ponzi schemes. Let them start the process of dying and starting something sustainable like individual retirement and health care accounts.

The President presents a budget to congress to vote on. Yes the congress voted for President Clintons budget and balanced the budget with a surplus to pay off the debt. Then Bush shot the whole thing to hell.
