What are some stuff that could get the employees fired?

Pretty sure UPS can't touch this one. Well unless you told employee X "Hey mister, I don't like the cut of your jib, and my Mossberg out in the trunk feels the same way!". Can't say for those that work at an airport, but as to the hub I work, you can leave the peacemaker in your vehicle with no problems.

im a firearms instructor, and actually something like this varies state to state.... If you make a threat that involves a gun, it is menacing and probably a chargeable offence!

In our center, we just lost 2 employees (they were fired) for not filing grievances after discharge letters. Our center writes people up for tardyness, attendance, mis-loads, FIL (found in loads). What really sucks is 1 of them was #2 on the cover driver senority list. 9+ years down the drain... Up until these 2 firings, only way to get fired was to steal. Arguing / cursing at a sup is nothing.

This guy lost his job over a disassembled .22 in his vehicle.

You might want to reconsider before bringing the "peacemaker" onto company property. UPS has a zero tolerance policy on weapons.

Possession of drugs on company property. Once in a blue moon, the feds will bring in a sniffer dog to a hub. You got a bag of weed in your pocket and the dog sits down next to you, you are SOL.

Not in the Gunshine state Florida. As long as you have a CWP you can keep a gun in your car on UPS property. State law.

Same law in my state. But if your state does not have a "clear public policy" of allowing employees to possess firearms on the premises of their private employers, you can be terminated for this.

It does. Maybe you have missed the news lately regarding gun laws in Florida(Sanford) due to a recent shooting.

In my 5 years with UPS I have seen 1 employee get fired and it stuck. That was for stealing time and he was a 22.3 combo that had done it before. The Union didn't want to back him again.

I have seen fights, verbal abuse, obvious intoxication and even a guy who no call/no showed for 13 straight days get their job back.

My local is as solid as a rock.

Oh I've definetly been following the news, but I guess I did miss the part about the shooting taking place on the premises of the shooter's private employer.

They come thru my building about twice a month. Of course, they take this beautiful black lab. truck to truck, but your on the penn and the dog walks right by you. If you have the hippie lettuce on you or maybe if you took a rip before the shift.....SOL.

It didn't take place at a private employers work place. That's not what I meant sorry. I just meant read into more of Florida's gun laws.

Ever noticed when the dogs show up. Supervisors disappear from the belts. Just have convince the dog handlers to walk the dogs past the supervisor car, if the dog sits down? Game over for the supervisor.

You're not getting fired because a drug dog alerts next to you. You're trying to suggest if you were stoned coming in, yet have nothing on you and a dog hits on you, you'll be fired and that is not true.

If the dog "hits' on you this gives UPS the reasonable suspicion that they need in order to "ask" that you submit to a urinalysis.

On who? A package handler or driver? Give me a source where a drug dog alerts on a person who smoked marijuana but is not in possession of it. Trained drug dogs can alert off marijuana residue, not combusted material. The assumption that a dog would alert off an employee who smoked a joint in the parking lot is ridiculous to begin with. What are we even suggesting here? That a K9 searching packages at UPS catches a whiff of an employee who smoked before his shift, alerts off of him and then UPS has suspicion to give a urinalysis to this person?

You are wrong. What do you mean if a dog hit's on you? What if your at a concert/party and someone hands you a joint or your next to the pot head smoking? No sorry I don't smoke, ok pass it on. From What I read in the contract is that you need to have two supervisors witness that you may be under the influence, then both have to escort you to a drug testing facility. Random drug testing is only reserved for accidents,Feeder or you come in "friend'd" up. Things may be different in N.Y.
