When the Light Bulb Finally Comes On

The lady I'm speaking about basically covers for 3 incompetent managers, and several of her equally incompetent co-workers in the same job classification. Now, the managers will have to actually do their jobs, which should be interesting. I'm expecting all 3 to either get canned or downgrade. She has totally carried their load.
Ok so it could be a good thing then, if and when she quits, the three managers you described will be exposed for their short comings and will get the ax and hopefully replaced by managers who know what they are doing.

The real question is, how do those 3 managers keep from not becoming exposed afters she's been gone for 6 months?

It goes back to what MFE said they do poorly when she is gone a week and we all know that ops can go through about anything and survive in a week. White Line stated they will either do their job or be replaced the auditor's will put a microscope on them sooner or later. Right now at my station when any one person is gone we don't miss a beat, in past years it hasn't been the case but we survived. Maybe they are capable of doing the job maybe not but time will tell. One thing is for sure at FedEx the more you do the more they want you to do, the nature of the beast here.

Exactly - and this is one of the reasons why I just do the bare minimum now...and I pretend not to know even less than what I actually do know (if that's even humanly possible)

those other slacker managers took her for granted... glad she opened her eyes & is looking to move on

as drivers, we know which managers suck & which does exceptionally well... based on how fast they PIP/flex parcels to the correct route, how they move their workers to balance the sort flow, etc...

I've seen the good hub cross-train their managers so when one takes a vacation, the others cover up for him/her; they don't skip a beat

as for me, they approach me for another dog-pony show of that Chairman's Challenge again & i just replied:

sure, i'll take care of the customers w/in my service area for that day, but that's it with this outfit

They won't. They threw her under the bus for one of their many miscalculations, and now she is returning the favor. I can hardly wait until tomorrow when they rely on her to un-eff the PM operation...and she simply does the minimum. When she takes another job, they will be looking for work themselves, or be back as couriers. This woman is smart, tri-lingual, attractive, and being totally taken advantage of. Someone will snap her up in a minute. Just another example of the talent pool being drained dry.

She quits, things suck for a while, management finds someone else who will allow themselves to be exploited to cover their messes. Short term, managements incompetence is exposed but there is always someone else who wants to be the hero by doing work above their pay grade. Lots of purple koolaid drinkers left out there.

Agreed, but this person is an exceptional employee. 1 out of 10,000...that good.

With 27 years in that would equate to a lot of vacation time, just curious how do y'all survive the weeks she is gone?
We had a similar lady in Texas that took care of all the details like getting rental vans, ordering uniforms, making sure we got FO delivered on time by checking with us, and a thousand other things. She would step in for mgrs when they were out and things were always better when she was there than when she was on vacation. I don't recall her title but she did have one, and she wasn't in management or on salary. I think she was the Quality Assurance Specialist. My next station had one mgr, and he was responsible for all that, except for when they had an ASPIRE candidate who handled it.

A lot of couriers think nobody else can run their route but they are all mistaken, one person don't stop the machine there may be a hiccup here and there but everything rolls on with or without us.

The louder a courier says that no one else can run his route, the more likely it is that someone can run it better than he can.
