Why doesn't Sandy Pope have a full slate?

Why doesn't Sandy Pope have a full slate?

hall seems to take almost as much criticism as Hoffa. Sandy has headed the TDU for some time now, so she knows and has worked with a lot of union people. Couldn't and shouldn't she have recruited others to join her in running for IBT office?

I am quite puzzled...The poll here on BC has Sandy way in the lead, (though the number of people who have voted is small)...others say she has no chance of winning...I would think that any serious, viable, candidiate would have a full slate...what could she (or anyone) do alone surrounded by other elected officers which are NOT part of "her team." I an beginning to wonder if what is happening here is what I sometimes see in government elections - the incumbent is no good and is disliked by most of the contituents, but there is no real strong alternative in the election, so the rotten incumbent wins, sometimes one election after another.

I think you are exactly right, but I'd like to add a different twist.
The way I see it is this, there are two factions of voters, the Hoffa supporters and the non-Hoffa supporters.
The non-Hoffa supporters may very likely outnumber the supporters.
Problem now is there two canidates vying for non-Hoffa votes, leaving Jimmy a runaway winner.
Head on head I believe Hoffa would be in serious jeopardy of losing this election.
Makes me wonder in light of this theory, if Hoffa and his boy Gregare really did have a falling out?
Could it be a well orchastrated plan to split the oposing vote???
I can't dismiss the possibility.

This is more of a strategy my friend. Hoffa inner circle does not look as strong as it looks. Keegel and Gegare were obvious Hoffa supporters but now have in some ways distanced themselves from Hoffa. I do not think everything is peaches and cream in the Hoffa camp. Two, you would have an experienced slate,if Sandy won, and there would not be a drop off in my opinion but more of a leader that has had experience working in our conditions and actually be an IBT president that is one of our own and not a corporate lawyer that is not in touch with the problems Hoffa never experienced. Some make the suggestions that the Eboard would turn on Sandy but I think this eboard are puppets and would do as they are told just as Hoffa has been doing with them the last 3 elections. Just my opinion.

hoffa has dumped on everyone and anyone who voices an opinion or makes a move on their own, especially if it is a positive one that takes the spotlight from him.he is an ego-maniac.fred saw what was coming and parted ways.we at ups have watched our grip loosen and believe me,4 or 5 more years aisian sweatshops will feel sorry for us. now in my closing words,t.d.u. .....they are a leach to the brotherhood and lobby under the guise of "democratic"when their roots were deep in socialism, when formed in detroit michigan by card carrying socialists.i will not name them but you can research it.tdu has never done anything for the teamsters or members, but join today at a discount and receive a free "fighting for members shirt"along with a truckload of bathroom reading material.

I also see two factions. However, I see reform-minded members and old guard members. Reform-minded members backed Carey two times and Leedham three times. That same base is not going to back old guard hacks like Hoffa/Gegare. Plus since the last contract, Hoffa has totally lost any support from UPS Teamsters, so Im sure her numbers will improve on Leedhams's. Gegare will mostly pull from the old guard base of Hoffa which they share. This is a close race and Hoffa knows it.

So you are upset that TDU founders might be socialists?? LOL, wake up buddy, the entire union movement was started by socialists, communists, anarchists and progressives!! Here's another memo to you: Unions are anti-capitalist entities (OH dear , Oh my!).They interfere with the "free" market and the race to the bottom to find the lowest wages. They strive to distribute the wealth (oh know not that) that they help create in a more just manner. Without them corporations would pay slave wages. Say what you want about the founders of TDU, but it was people like them throughout history that made it better for you and I today. So maybe instead of attacking fellow Teamsters why dont you say thankyou to the trouble makers that organized workers and started groups like TDU!!

Um, only part of what you are saying is true. To my knowledge the Teamsters and other unions were more Republicans, than anything, through most of the 20th century and instilled that a successful company leads to a successful union. The fringe left became exactly that, over time.

Sandys plan is to run against Hoffa only. She believes that the people that are currently there could do a good job under the right leadership. By doing this she can win support from other vps voting base. Look at the vote thread, it's working. She has 64% while hoffa and geyser each have 19% of the vote by our poll.

i will not thank tdu{i am not upset at them either,i just dont buy into their scheme}i will thank men like shea, tobin and hoffa sr. for their efforts in building the teamsters to what is imo the best labor organization today.i will thank you also for the short history of unions and anti-capitalism.you do know tdu is not a union, dont you? they are just an organization that feeds off union members and make claims of oversight and progressive help. now please tell me what tdu has done for you.increased wages, pensions,?strengthened contract?got you some time off with pay?i could go on but i would rather you tell me how they have made your job or life better?thank you.

You are talking party. I am talking ideology and philosophy. Fact is unions were created by the most progressive among us back then. (Also, back then the Republican party was a progressive party)

"Scheme"?? Could it be their "scheme" to bring elections to our union?? It was TDU that spearheaded that , not shea or tobin or hoffa!!

Yes I know that TDU is not a union, duh!! It is an organization that attempts to inform the rank and file about what our leadership is doing. They have good access to what goes on in Washington. They push for reform and getting rid of the corruption and mafia. They also train rank and file members to run for local office and get members involved in local and intl elections. How does that bother you?? TDU has made me a more informed (watch it, lol), more active member/fighter for this union.

in other words, they havent done squat for you.thats what i thought.they cannot take credit for elections or reform or mafia corruption any more than the government and the rico act. they are a parasite living off membership.thank you for making my point.

You must be some old guard union official arent you?? Your words give it away. Your type think that only the union officials can do things and only union officials know anything. It was overpaid union officers here in local 804 that underestimated the power of the rank and file. They woke up one morning and found themselves out of a well paying job!! That is the importance of groups like TDU. They empower the rank and file to stand up to status quo, old guard union officers and educate the membership. You are right TDU didnt win the election of 1991 but they educated enough rank and file members to take back their union from the old guard. Thanks to TDU we do have regular elections, we have less corruption and more educated members. You call it a parasite?? You do know that TDU is a voluntary organization of thousands. If anything a Hoffa-controlled union is the parasite for sucking our union dues away and us, the host, and getting nothing positive out of the relationship!!

No one is disgareeing, but what you are missing is that Sandy Pope has little background and her tiny local is practically bankrupt in 10 years.

Sandy Pope "has little background"?? She has been a Teamster since 1978. She actually runs a local, unlike Junior before 1998. She actually negotiated contracts while Junior was working for the employers. She was brought to Washington by Ron Carey and worked with him. Her local is not bankrupt. It spent some of their reserves on doing actual organizing. That costs $$ . Whats wrong with spending $$ on organizing. It is like a good investment that pays off years later. Besides Overnite, which was a gift to Hoffa by UPS, what has Junior organized??

Here in California, Neither POPE nor Gegare has a prayer to win our votes. I dont know about those in the east, especially in 804 which seems to be a festering nonstop shoutfest every year.

Here, we dont believe Hoffa Hall are the best or have done all they could to work with the locals to enforce, but we know that under either Pope or Gegare, it will be worse.

California will not allow Pope or Gegare to make things worse, not matter how "cute" they appear to be.

Peace.

Just was in California a couple of weeks ago and didn't see "we" doing a whole lot of Hoffa chanting. In fact, alot of interest in the Gegare-Sheard ticket and its message.
