Why is Christmas such a threat to some people?

Christmas is a Christian holiday, so yeah, we do "own" it. We Christians are celebrating the birth of our Savior- If you don't believe in God, then don't celebrate; better yet, why even celebrate at all? I get it that some don't want to be preached to, talked to, persuaded to belief, and I'm fine with that; stay home and NOT celebrate is the same option as stay home AND celebrate. Privacy works both ways.

Some don't like getting calls from charities......but we still get them. Handle it !!

With all due respect, if Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Jesus why isn't it celebrated when Jesus was born: in the SPRING ! the early Christians STOLE this holiday from the Pagans ( the ones who actually 'owned ' it) and who called this celebration Sol Invictus or Saturnalia and it also neatly coincided with the birthday of the Indo-european deity Mithra

You can celebrate when you want.....here's the federal word on it!!
December 25
Christmas Day
A worldwide holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Popular aspects of the holiday include decorations, emphasis on family togetherness, and gift giving. Designated a federal holiday by Congress and President Ulysses S. Grant in 1870.

Peak would be so much easier in the Spring!

For a christian nation founded on christian ideals, why did they wait 100 years before doing this?

Maybe because they were trying to keep church and state separate?

They didn't include the phrase "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance until the McCarthyism and Communist scare in the 50's.

The government has always been last minute Louie..........Gitmo closed yet? It's 3 years past his promise.
Fiscal Cliff down to the last minute? typical !
It takes forever to get anything done......except Mooch's vacation plans......those are promptly taken care of.

Baby Jesus in the closet????? I thought that stuff was relevent now.

Our Judeo-Christian heritage continues to circle the drain.

Via Fox News:
Frosty the Snowman is there — and so is Santa Claus.

But the Baby Jesus is stuffed inside a closet at Cottondale Elementary School — leaving many residents of this small town in the Florida panhandle outraged.
The Nativity scene had been a part of the school’s holiday lawn decorations for years. But this year the yuletide display is strictly secular.

Principal Brenda Jones told television station WJHG the decision to keep Baby Jesus in the closet came after an official with the Dept. of Education dropped by to discuss the separation of church and state.

“The Dept. of Education came in and talked to us about the legalities of religion in the school systems and the separation of the two,” Jones told the television station.

In an attempt to be fair to everyone, the principal said, “We decided that we would just not put the Nativity scene out on campus.”

Looks like you still have a few days to give the White House a call and tell them to move the tree inside:

Several events take place around the National Christmas Tree. The first event, the Lighting of the National Christmas Tree is scheduled for Thursday, December 6, 2012. After the tree is lit, the Christmas Pathway of Peace begins. The Pathway, featuring trees representing the states and territories of the United States, also includes a number of musical performances.

2012 National Christmas Tree Lighting Program

Peace, Love and Joy!

I'm sorry, I guess I spoke too soon... It appears that they will not have room inside the White House for the Tree that is currently outside.

As Americans face a fiscal cliff, the Obamas make do with 54 Christmas trees :happy-very:

"We have 54 trees in the White House," an excited Michelle Obama proudly told visitors the other day. "54! That’s a lot of trees."

Is she that stupid to brag about that, or did someone make that up?
maroon.
