The new partnership??

To correctly describe today’s United Parcel Service Corporation, the calendar of time would have to be reversed to completely capture what was in the hearts and minds of our Company founders and early pioneers.
A UPS partner felt this spirit, but had difficulty in trying to fit the words to properly convey and perpetuate the dreams and ideals of “men of High Motives and Honest Hearts”.
This is a modest attempt to remind our Management of some of those qualities that were once acquired, maintained and preserved by each and every Partner.
Now I work for my manager and anyone in our Company with a higher pay grade. We employees work to drive the stock price higher. We are merely workers in a company that used to be owned by the managers and supervisors. Employees have lost the friendship that was achieved when they finally made partner.
I work for the success of my manager and to make the department goals. I see no personal gain or advantage. I give the benefit of my own knowledge and experience, many times to train my new manager for they know nothing of the operations but only how to “manage” . It would be great if they could actually do the job to coach , train and counsel.
To my boss, “Service Comes First”. Though I am dedicated to serving others, -- All of our People – All of our Customers – All of our Business Contacts – and All of the People in the Community, if I make a mistake, I know I could be fired or lose my bonus even as I perform my job with sincerity and honesty.
The financial stability and the current profitability of our Company are measured, assessed and usually require more of my time “giving” rather than “receiving”.
I believe there are policies at UPS. I know what they are; I know what they mean; I adhere to them to the best of my ability. I know that they are ignored for some and strictly enforced as situations require.
Being a Partner meant “Sharing In All Things”. Now there are some partners that are treated better than others. They share higher percentages of our successes as I share in larger co-pays of health care benefits with smaller raises.
Being a Partner is no longer a way of life. Now as an employee, my future is uncertain and many are being encouraged to find or choose another path for themselves.
I must continually earn my right to employment. I am only as good as my latest success. My previous efforts and contributions will not be evaluated if my mistake impacted the bottom line of my business unit. I know that results obtained through the efforts of my performance in my specific responsibilities are only to bring value to our bottom line.
I must constantly strive toward better personal performance. As I grow in my job I know that other people are becoming supervisors at a lower pay rate. They will replace senior employees in time when their salary becomes difficult to maintain.
I have a no voice in determining the future course of our company. The management climate in our Company is such that they make decisions to impact Wall Street. I can and should speak out on matters that pertain to our common welfare but I know that it will not be heard or treated with respect.
Throughout my years when there was a partnership, I looked with confidence toward my own personal well-being. I know the Company can get back to the old principles so it can grow and prosper for the financial future of the current employees to be assured. We need the qualities of partnership as a guide for now and for the future. The partnership concept can be a legacy for the new management employees to come.
