Kids and cars
<sigh>
Remember my daughter flipped her car about a month ago? Well, the insurance company totalled it, paid it off, and gave her $1000.
Well last week, my son got in an accident. His car was not totalled, but having only basic insurance the insurance company won't pay to repair his car.
So here's my next project. The parts are ordered, my sledgehammers ready:

So someone make me feel better. Anyone elses kids smashing up their cars?

I assume since you did not say so that your kids are ok and that's the best thing. We can relate...that's for sure our daughter has had her share of accidents including the totaling of two different vehicles. She's ok as well.
Good luck with your repair and tell those kids it's back to bikes until they memorize the 5 seeing habits..lolPosted 03-21-2009 at 03:32 PM by tonyexpress

They are both ok. First words out of my mouth when he called me, "Are you alright? Is everyone alright?"Quote:I assume since you did not say so that your kids are ok and that's the best thing. My son called me up one night a couple of months ago and says he had just ran off the road and it knocked off the front bumper cover and flattened the front tire. I figure no big deal, I can paint a bumper cover white and get a new tire, we won't have to turn it over to the insurance company and pay the $1000 deductable. A stranger stopped and pulled him out with a rope, he didn't even have to pay a towtruck. The next day, he calls and says the transmission is sounding funny, so I had him call it in to insurance. Turns out the front and rear bumpers, both right side doors were reskinned, frame straightened, and so forth. The total came out to $5500, this is a 2004 Chevy Cavalier. If the hood got dented, they would have totalled it.
Over, if the frame or front suspension isn't bent, it looks fixable. There are some great prices on EBay for some body parts. Good luck.
BTW, I made my son pay the deductible, I wasn't going to bail him out on this one. His windshield fogged up and he was in too big of a hurry to pull over and let the engine warm up enough for the defroster to work. He will think twice the next time.Posted 03-21-2009 at 08:52 PM by scratch

Yikes! Déjà vu. Have fun man. I wrecked a 91' Cherokee the same way and rebuilt the front end. I had a blast putting it all together. I think the biggest problem I had was getting it all lined up just right. I had to replace everything including the passenger side fender where the most damage was. The worst part was I did it right in front of our building on the way into work. ... I might have been running a little late to work.
BTW...is that a 99'? I have a black 99' Cherokee sport now. The 91' got totaled again when a big truck tried to run me over.Posted 03-22-2009 at 09:44 PM by chev
