I have three uncles that have something unique in common, they were all born on February the 19th, just different years! We had a special family gathering last week, and I posted the newspaper article about it above.

They all grew up in tough times, my grandfather lost his dairy farm and had heart problems. So my grandmother pretty much had to raise and support her three sons and three daughters during The Great Depression by herself. She became the manager of the cafeteria at South Fulton High School, and during WWII, she also worked a second job at the Bell Aircraft Plant in Marietta by building B-29 bombers.

They lived with no electricity, indoor plumbing, or telephone. The oldest daughter's job was to keep the oil lamps clean and full so they could see at night. Both of my older uncles were drafted by the Atlanta Cracker's Baseball team, but WWII ended their future ball careers. The Atlanta Constitution ran an article in the late '20s, that old photo is so cool. My mother was the youngest of the kids, she was the only one that got a bicycle, it was a Christmas gift that everybody pitched in to get her.

The boys all went off to serve their country as soon as they reached draft age. The oldest, Coney, was a bombardier in a B-29 bomber. He lives near Hilton Head Island now, and at 89, he still drives his BMW convertible up to spend his birthday with his brothers. Billy was a Marine that fought in the Pacific, he saw action on Iwo Jima and was wounded on Saipan. Jack was in the Army, he was stationed in Florida at a base that trained soldiers being deplored to Europe. After the war, they all came home and got married and started their careers. Coney became a title lawyer, and the two younger brothers later retired from their careers at AT&T.

They are all close, they get together and go on trips all the time now. The last fifty years, the brothers all make it a point to get together and celebrate on February 19th. My uncles and aunts take care of each other in anyway they can. It was great to see everybody once again last week. My uncles all said they wanted to "have just another day together next year". I hope they do.

A few months back, my wife started nagging me about a spot that was growing in front of my right ear. I have a few freckles and moles, so I didn't worry too much about it. I kept putting it off, but finally I made an appointment with a dermatologist to look at it.

So I go Feb. 2, the doc says it might not be nothing, but recommended it getting biopsied. So two weeks later, I go back and she numbed it up and took a little piece out of the side of my face. I get a call a few days later, the pathologist says to have it removed as soon as possible, its early skin cancer.
Two weeks later , I am in the doctor's office having Moh's micrographic surgery. The doctor is an expert at this, he had just moved into my area and had practiced at the Mayo Clinic. He would shave or cut a layer of skin off, and then a lab tech in the office would analyze it. This took an hour, and then this process was repeated until all the cancer was gone. It took four different slices to get all of it, the hole in the side of my head was about dime size and came close to my skull. He had to cut out a little bit of cartilage of my ear. I went home for the night, and he did reconstructive surgery and closed the wound up with twenty two sutures the next day.

I had the rest of my stitches pulled out last Monday, it looks like it healed nice and I won't have scars. So I hope that everyone will pay attention to little things like this and not procrastinate like I usually do and get it tended to. If I had waited a Little while longer, this would have turned into a much serious problem with chemo and radiation treatments. I was lucky this time.

I finally did income taxes tonight. I hate taxes, the government wastes most of it. One of the reasons this country was founded was because of the high taxes the British Crown put on the colonists.:biting:

I did better this year, $90 to the Feds instead of $1000 like last year. I found some deductions for my son's college expenses. I will get back $234 from the state.:knockedout:
