A 747-400 Boeing cargo plane operated by United Parcel Service Inc crashed in an air force base near Dubai's airport after takeoff on Friday, the U.S. parcel delivery company said.

The United Arab Emirates civil aviation authority said the bodies of the two crew members on board were recovered.

Al Jazeera television quoted witnesses as saying the plane was ablaze before crashing. State-run Dubai TV said the crash appeared to have been caused by a technical fault.

The UPS Foundation has pledged $1.25 million over two years to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.

The foundation is the charitable arm of Atlanta-based United Parcel Service Inc., which has its airlines division headquarters and its largest international air-cargo sorting hub in Louisville.

That brings the UPS Foundation's total support for UNICEF to $2 million for 2010 and 2011.

Fedex, UPS Rise: Dahlman Prefers FDX

Fedex, UPS Rise: Dahlman Prefers FDX - Barrons

Shares of Fedex (FDX) and United Parcel Service (UPS) are both higher this afternoon after Dahlman Rose analyst Jason Seidl iniated coverage of the two stocks with a “Buy” rating on Fedex and a $97 price target and a “Hold” rating on UPS.

Fedex shares may face pressure “in the near term” from uncertainty about global economic recovery, writes Seidl, but the stock, trading at just 14 times 2011 EPS estimates, is cheaper than its 10-year P/E historical average of 19 times.

As for UPS, it’s also, like Fedex, historically cheap, at 16 times 2011 EPS projections, versus an average in the early part of the last decade of 25 times earnings. But multiples have contracted to 16 to 19 times earnings in recent years, so he doesn’t see enough upside to merit buying the shares.

Standard & Poor's said Thursday it raised the ratings outlook of United Parcel Service Inc. to stable from negative. S&P has a AA- corporate credit rating on UPS. "The ratings on Atlanta-based UPS reflect its very strong position in ground parcel delivery and substantial earnings and cash flow.

How Safe Are UPS' Dividends? - Motley Fool

United Parcel Service, which operates in the air freight and logistics industry, currently pays a dividend of 2.9%. That's certainly nothing to sneeze at, as the average dividend payer in the S&P 500, in 2009, sported a yield of 2%.

But what's more important than the dividend itself is United Parcel Service's ability to keep that cash rolling. The first thing to look at is the company's reported dividends versus its reported earnings. If you happen to see dividend payments that are growing faster than earnings per share, it may be an initial signal that something just isn't right.

Clearly, there doesn't seem to be a problem here. United Parcel Service has been able to boost its earnings at an adequate pace and keep its dividends in check at the same time.
