    Re: Obamacare

The European Union is sort of like Obamacare, in a way it went to far, but in another way it didn't go far enough !

    Just a temp fix !

Face it, Europe needs to become 1 solid country with their 15 States (or how many members they have), and the US has to get rid of privatized healthcare all together - no more private insurance companies, and 30% of healthcare costs going just for administrative purposes, and probably another 30% going towards profit.

You need a non-per profit and efficient system !

That's why America is not Europe. We have the Federal Reserve. We have the ability to control inflation should we need to. We are in full go mode right now and sputtering along. Should a wildfire economy break out, begin raising interest rates. This is what Europe cannot do with their patchwork economies.
You did not factor in inflation and that will be HUGE going forward. Especially with another round of credit downgrades...
Look - I am not trying to be a smart ass here. What you say is true BUT - You need to take into account not being able to pay our debt. We have no choice but to print more money to pay it.

Here is an EXTREME example to make my point. We print enough money to devalue the $ by 50%. Let's just say that the price of oil is $100 a barrel. To recoup the loss of the devalued $, oil goes up to $200 a barrel just to keep the same profit levels. So the domino effect sets in. All goods and services have to go up to pay for higher fuel costs spread across the spectrum.

Inflation will kill us retired folks on a fixed income. etc etc.

Inflation will not be huge because the Federal Reserve can begin to take money out of circulation by raising interest rates. It is the antithesis of a free market economy that we live in.

    Re: Obamacare

It has become a red herring of sorts for the right wing to point to Europe. America is not Europe and financially the only thing standing in the way of economic sanity is politicaly crazies.

    Re: Obamacare

This is where we have to agree to disagree. I do appreciate a respectful dialog though! Thank You!

My feeling is you can't reign in the controls for inflation until there is a surplus of money and a strong vibrant economy. Printing of money won't stop if we can't control spending. You have to pay for the debt somehow!

    Anyway good discussion!!

I enjoyed it as well. Thankyou.

Again I think the only think standing in the way of that vibrant economy is dysfunctional politics.

I disagree, IMO helicopter Ben can't raise interest rate it will never go up. The US debt is too high, and the money supply(M1,M2,M3) has to grow to keep the ponzi scheme going(fractional banking), any contraction(deflation) cause another 08 crash and worse. In the 80s the interest rate went up to 20% to fight inflation because it got out of control and the economy wasn't this fragile(fake) like now.

For years, an exodus of doctors to the United States helped fuel Canada's growing shortage of medical staff, and gave emotional ammunition to opponents of Canadian-style health-care reform in the States.

But medical recruiters and migration statistics suggest a surprising new trend has emerged over the past few years: a net movement of physicians from the United States to Canada.

"Canada is the number one spot in the world for doctors to come and work, live and play," said John Philpott, CEO of CanAM Physician Recruiting in Halifax. "Talking to physicians in the United States, they're shocked how much more money they can make in Canada."

The flip side of the equation seems to be true as well, with fewer Canadian doctors answering the call to practice in the States, once seen as a Mecca of better remuneration and more comfortable work environments.
"I have calls from American companies on a regular basis asking me to find them Canadian doctors, and I have to say 'that ship has sailed,' " said Susan Craig of Toronto-based Susan Craig Associates, which recruits doctors for both American and Canadian employers.

Money is not the only draw, however.

Many U.S. physicians are also fed up with a system in which private insurance companies fund most medical care, meaning they must deal with as many as 40 different firms to get paid. One study suggested that U.S. physicians spend 140 hours and $60,000 a year dealing with insurers, said Lynn Bury, recruitment director for HealthForce Ontario.

Some also see the Canadian system as allowing them to practise more freely, unfettered by private hospitals, insurance companies and HMOs, said Ms. Bury.
