Profit a year earlier was $1.13 billion, or $1.04 a share. Excluding the pension payment, earnings met the $1.13-a- share average of 15 analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg. International markets including China buoyed results as U.S. package volume rose 1.4 percent, the smallest fourth- quarter gain since 2004.
