Re: Discuss: Free Holiday Turkeys, a Ritual in Decline We always serve a fresh, free-range organic turkey for Thanksgiving. I buy a turkey from a farm on my route and I actually pick out which one I want while it is still alive. They have a bunch of turkeys running around free in a barnyard area, and you pick one and they grab it, chop the head off, pluck it, wrap it and give it to you the next day. Its more expensive, but its much more humane than a factory farm and way better quality. It also gives you a valuable perspective on the actual origin of your meat when you see the animal while it is still alive.
