FedEx Express: National Survey Shows Americans Oppose 'Brown Bailout' for UPS (Press Release) - Yahoo
Americans overwhelmingly oppose the proposed government “brown bailout” for United Parcel Service that would give UPS an industry edge for overnight deliveries, according to a new national poll conducted June 2-3 by Public Opinion Strategies for “BrownBailout.com.”

Nearly seven out of 10 Americans polled oppose the government intervention and 80 percent say the federal government should stop bailing out companies and let the market determine who succeeds.

I just want to know who WROTE that "press release." It says the survey is "of 800 registered voters, and has a margin of error of the poll is +/- 3.46%." That's a train wreck of a sentence if ever there was one. If you want a "press release" to be credible, shouldn't it be written by someone who has a passing familiarity with grammar?

What sickens me , is that even though it is mentioned on top of this article that it is a press release, the fact that it is in yahoo finance seems to present it as a legitimate article (however legitimate an article on yahoo finance can be ).

The fact that the article seems to be written by businesswire also adds legitimacy to the "article" as the name of businesswire seems to sound like that of a real newsservice . A slight look at businesswire.com shows me that all it is is a hired gun p.r. (public relations, not puertorican) firm that issued and distributed this press release for its client , fed ex. I don't think most people reading this piece of garbage are going to look that deep. That much being said, this is the internet and people will just go on to the next article, video, piece of porn, email from relatives, and forget all about it. They may not even read the whole thing as there is not a single mention of Myley Cyprus in the opening paragraphs.

One of my emails is blahblahblah@yahoo.com so I went to yahoo.com and didn't see this "article" on the main page. I then moved my cursor to the "yahoo finance" section and hit click and was taken to that page. I looked all around and did not see any link, reference , to the article or the article itself. And I was looking hard. So I doubt other people are going to view this article. Fed ex and businesswire might have more eyes viewing this article if they had placed it in the local pennysavers throughout the country.

Also notice, if you go to the yahoo link that cheryl provided, right above the title of the article, is a feedback button that is requesting your comments about the reformatted yahoo finance section. I clicked and sent back a comment to yahoo stating that it is wrong to be an outlet for a press release. However, I also fear the more that we access this article, the more likely it is that the article will be promoted out of the depths of obscurity and hence be featured more prominently than it is now .

Fed X has had their "goverment bailout" since 1970. Fed X does the same work UPS does. Fed X should follow the same laws UPS does. Why should Fed X get special treatment!

Not sure if anyone knows anything about the polling company "Public Opinion Strategies" that completed this survey. The name in it self should send a red flag to all of us. They have been accused in the past for using push polls to influence elections. From their website "Republican political and public affairs survey research company." Yahoo should be ashamed at themselves for posting a survey such as this. Fred has a ton of money a ton of resources when it comes to business. These resources extend far into politicians and the like.

More like probably FedEx managers. If you attach the word "bailout" to anything then of course it's going to bring a negative reaction. Like I said before they should do a poll asking people if they think FedEx express and UPS drivers are doing the same type of work. That would put their strange campaign to rest!!!!

That's what sad. FedEx employees are the main ones who would benefit from this.

Coke and Pepsi do the same thing. Home Depot and Lowe's, McDonald's and Burger King, Walgreen's and CVS, Heinz and Hunt's, and AT&T and Verizon all do the same things. That's my campaign.

Here is the truth:
1: The poll was a nationwide poll of 800 registered voters.
2: The poll had a margin of error of +/-3.46%.
3: The poll sample size was in line with statistical polling standards.
Are you really surprised that a poll of American voters showed that 81% think the package delivery system works, and that Congress should NOT fix what isn't broken?

What would the poll results say if we asked the SAME 800 people,

Should Fedex continue to receive the government bail-out it has enjoyed for the past 20 years?

You can get any answer you want depending on how you ask the question.

This "poll" was done by a PR firm hired by Fedex. Not much truth in it at all, its just the way its worded. Most of Brown Bailout is all hype, Smith is scared and his website shows it.

The poll was of 800 voters around the country - not people in just one city. That's a lot of Americans with an opinion about government intervention on FedEx Express. Most of the polls the news media report on have a much smaller sample size. But the point here is that this poll found 81 percent of respondents believe FedEx and UPS have been operating successfully for decades and since consumers have choices, competitive prices and service options, there's no need to change the laws. Further, 67 percent oppose the proposed action by Congress to impose trucking regulations on FedEx Express. By removing FedEx Express from RLA, Congress would expose FedEx operations to service interruptions that all other trucking companies work under and could impact the shipment of important goods like medicines and essential inventory. It's all spelled out at ************.
