UPS Forms Dubai Joint Venture as U.S. Sales Decline - Bloomberg
United Parcel Service Inc., the world’s largest package-delivery company, will create a joint venture covering 21 countries in the Middle East to focus on overseas markets as U.S. deliveries fall.

“This part of the world has become a transportation bridge and ideal near-sourcing location for Europe, Russia and Asia,” Dan Brutto, president of UPS International, said in the statement.

Dubai is one of the fastest growing areas in the world and this is a very smart move IMO.

I'm not saying I am putting in for a transfer there but the Dubai region is one of the fastest growing regions in the world.

Dubai is one of the best locations in the ME to expand for a company like UPS. Infrastructure for commercial activities is excellent, especially when it comes to air freight. It is conveniently located for any expansion into South Asia and Central Asia. Once stability has reached an adequate and acceptable level to the North and Northwest of Dubai, then this region will be able to contribute quite a little bit to the success of UPS.
Dubai does offer Quality of Life conditions that are too far away from what Western people expect when they are posted to Dubai. The heat is a factor, but you adjust to that one too.
Have lived in South Asia for close to 5 years, and life is bearable, but definitely not easy.
