I used to use limewire but they were prone to viruses so then I went with ares but they have turned greedy and want money now.I found one called Frostwire that I'm pretty happy with. http://www.frostwire.com |

Google "torrent" or "bittorrent" to find out the best software to use. I just buy mp3s from amazon.com now. They run specials where you can buy whole CDs for 5.99 and I use Pepsi points for free mp3 downloads as well. |

I look for sites that stream music and copy the songs using Nero Wave Editor. I then edit the songs the way I want them to sound and save them as mp3's or wma's. I also have a Sirius satellite radio and copy alot off there. |

Connect a stereo patch cable there and the other end of the cable to the mic input jack of your computer/laptop.
You can also have the sat. radio FM transmit to your home stereo system and connect the stereo patch cable from the earphone output jack to the computer's mic input jack. Where I'm at, there's too much static to do that.
The hardest part is tweaking the volume level so that the music isn't so soft you can't hear it or so loud that it distorts when cranked up. |

Rep Power: 5102 | Re: finding music online I forgot to add this will work with any source that has a stereo output. I used to use my phone to stream from a site called Mercora. They went out of business earlier this year (probably because of people doing what I'm doing). Although I haven't tried it yet (I don't have cable or satellite tv), it should work with the cable music channels provided your tv has a stereo output. Mtv, VH1, or the other channels that just play music. |

Your windows operating system has a very basic (it will only record for 60 seconds at a time) .wav editor program in it called Sound Recorder (it won't save songs as .mp3's). You can find it by clicking start, programs, accessories, entertainment, sound recorder.
The Nero program came with my external cd/dvd drive but you can buy it at compusa or best buy. It's pricey but the full suite program does much more than music. |

Watch for the spyware on that frostwire download. It asks if you want to download the toolbar and make ASK.com your home page. Those selections are conveniently checked for you already. Isn't that so nice of them.
It's also almost exactly like Limewire. A knock off maybe? You need to be VERY careful using Gnutella type networks. They are stocked full of viruses. Make no mistake. It is the same network as Limewire.

You choose the genre you want to hear, tell it what bands you like, and it plays the music from the type of bands you like. You can even choose the song you want to hear and it will play it. If you like the song you can "vote" to keep it in your playlist, if you don't, it will never play it for you again.
Unlike sirius, no one talks over the beginning or end of the songs, because there is no DJ. If you want to record music off the web, this is a pretty good site. |

You choose the genre you want to hear, tell it what bands you like, and it plays the music from the type of bands you like. | I use this site...the only drawback (to me anyway) is that you can not play a specific song.

Sorry. I should have checked first. |
