That's great that your wife works with Autistic children, my son is 14 and was diagnosed with high functioning autism at the age of 4....she may have already seen this definition put out by ASA but it is my favorite:

Autism: A neurological glitch characterized by obscure talents, impatience; extreme sensitivity, determination, frivolity and merriment; concealed intelligence; expressive and/or infrequent speech, and tornado like behaviors that may be acceptable at a fraternity house but are not allowed at the checkout counter. Despite these distinctions, individuals with autism share an occasional smile that will melt a parent's heart.
