I never saw it again. Another time at the same box I found a porn magazine inside. I promptly dropped it into the DHL box next to ours. The next day I got it back and I returned it to the DHL box. It went back and forth for about a month. Then one day it was gone never to be seen again.

Has anyone ever had a consignee drop a NDA letter with the ASD filled out with their address in both the "To" and "From" sections? By the time I pick the box up they are closed so we try to call them and, if they are not there, we will open the pkg to try to determine the address, but we usually end up bringing it back to them the next day. I also love the shippers who "forget" to put the weight on the ASD and I have to "guess"--I usually guess high. On the positive side, I have submitted quite a few successful sales leads based upon drop box packages.
The FedEx hub is actually on the way back to our center so whenever I have one of their pkgs and I can't find one of their drivers I will drop it off on my way back to the center. DHL is located in Vermont so I just throw it in one of their boxes. There is a mailbox right next to our box so that makes USPS pkgs easy.

Few years ago we had a driver who forgot the combo or had a bad lock on the drop box and no-one answered the phone in the center....So he took things into his own hands and threw the WHOLE drop box in the back of his truck and drove it back to the center. Backed up to the air belt and rolled it out and said "Here, you deal with it". |

Im really surprised that sales arent targeting these types of accounts more, especially if these boxes are in office buildings or business parks and customers who want to take a small walk to a box dont have to pay for a daily pickup. It seems if a customer has a good amount of air in box or letters, ups should waive the weekly pickup charge in liu of addititional revenue and volume from fedex. If we wouldnt charge a pickup fee, and fedex does, this is an opportunity for ups. I also dont know why they arent targeting more business on ebay, seems as if most people on there are using the post office....usually at a higher cost than ups. |

Tried calling it several times hoping someone would answer it. The next day on break I called my cell and the manager at an appartment complex answered and said she kept on hearing a ringing sound out of a pkg I delivered the day before. My cell phone had slipped out of my front shirt pocket and into the pkg. I got lucky, I got it back. |

Funny that you say this over95. When I first started air driving, let's say the first day alone, I opened a letter box and there was an Airborne Express package sitting there. I didn't take it. This is how stupid and naive I was. I could have just taken it and dropped in the Airborne box located 3 FEET away from our box, but I didn't. I didn't know what to do with it.
I was thinking "why would somebody drop an Airborne package in a UPS box?" I guess I was thinking that the person who left it there would be able to get into the box (again, naive and stupid) and get it and put it the right box.
A week went by and the idiot cunstomer realized he dropped it in the wrong box and called UPS. Needless to say, my boss questioned me on it and I told her the truth. Now in her eyes, I was the total idiot, and she was right. What did I expect would happen to the airborne package? Did I think it would magically dissapear?
At the same time I was thinking about the shipper "you can't tell the difference between a UPS box and an Airborne box????" "why are you leaving your important packages in the wrong letter box?"
When I send a letter via the USPS, I always check to see if the letter was dropped down into the box and not stuck somewhere at the top of the box. I am also fully cognizant to the fact that I am putting it into a US MAIL BOX and NOT a BRIGHT YELLOW DHL BOX. Good Grief!

I can imagine the person coming in the morning to find that important letter at their front door with no explination wondering why the hell did FDX bring this back? Probably shot off some irate calls. |

Rep Power: 665 | Re: Have you ever had a surprise when you opened a letterbox? For a while I had a route in one of those gated, master planned communities in Florida, with a "town center." The town center had a gas station, gym, library, etc. and a post office. The post office was just an indoor airconditioned building that had 1200 little mailboxes just like a regular post office, stamp machine etc. We had one of those indoor drop boxes in there also.
So after a week of this drop box, the same person is dropping their mail in the UPS box every fricking day. I asked the guy that used to pick up the box , and he says yeah every day their mail is in our box.
For awhile I put their mail in the mail slot (the one by all the USPS mailboxes you know.) After awhile this got old so the mail would sit in our box a couple of days depending on my mood, heat, and dispatch.
Well one day I had a stop next door to the person who was putting the mail in our box, after 3 years the address is still burned into my head from seeing it every day, 4*69 St. Georges Lane, Somewhere Fl. 34119. Anyway I went to their door thinking it might be a child etc. that did not know the differance between UPS and USPS.
Wrong!!! A 60 something year old drunk BIT#CH at 3 PM. I told her nicely what was happening and she advised me that it was my responsibility to put her mail in the right place cause it was a federal offense blah blah blah.
Well a couple hours later when I picked up the box, I indeed did put her mail in the USPS slot.
That was the last time. After about 2 months the mail quit accumulating in our drop box. I then very nicely took about 15 minutes to place her 2 months of mail through that small slot the USPS gives you.
Dont bother telling me it could cost me my job, I left on my terms. |
