6 keys to backing...

can anyone please post these?

my center is requiring us to know all the safety jargon by tomorrow.

my study cards don't even contain the 6 keys to backing, yet we must know it.

While I understand the theory behind this one, by the time you climb your fat body back into the package car, just about anything could have entered the space behind your package car from the other side.

Dont back unless absolutely necessary is always a good rule.

-Before and during backing, scan the areas your vehicle will be approaching
-Tap your horn continuously to signal your intentions
-AVOID BLINDSIDE BACKING, WHICH CAUSES YOUR VEHICLE TO MOVE TO THE RIGHT AND BLOCK YOUR LINE OF SIGHT
-Never back into driveways and be aware of children in residential areas after every delivery,
-Use the rear-view camera monitor as a third mirror.

5. tap horn every 4 seconds
6. check both mirrors and rear vision camera
7. driver's side (sight side) most preferred
8. straight back
9. blind side, least preferred
10. back only as far as necessary

If something obstructs your vision, get out and look

That's the list that was given to me and I stuck to my mailbox. The number 1 rule of backing is always, DON'T.

One thing to also consider about backing. In most states it is illegal to back out of a driveway onto a road. Not a rule, but if you remember, always back first if you have to back at all. After the delivery, you never ever never want to be backing first.

My fellow drivers, we really need to know the rules of backing.
What the previous poster didn't know, is there are actually only 5 rules of backing

If you are to get into an accident, statistically it will be a backing accident. When you do get into an accident, your sup. will be on car with you the next day quizing you on this and every other method you must know.

There are five rules to backing. Somebody here posted 10?. You can rememeber them by just going through the process menatlly. Just think about how you would do it yourself everyday and the rules are easy to recite. This is how it should be.

So when I get to a stop that might require a back , I:

1. Back only when necessary(don't back)
2. Back first and to the driver's side (sight side)
3. Visually clear the back. (scan the area)
4. Tap you horn to signal your intentions.
5. Use the camera as a 3rd mirror.

Can you believe we actually backed without the camera 7 short years ago?

And because of that one, we now have cameras on each delivery vehicle. Three in two years was a bit much.

New rule:..Save a back -use the culdesac!...Plus it will add two-three miles aday legally..

With some practice, you can ebrake slide right into those docks...

edit: on second hand nix that idea.. that would assume the ebrakes actually function
