I'll answer your first section with this: got a better idea for a system? Because we don't. And please, don't bring that socialist crap here. As far as the international opinion of the U.S of A....we've taken a beating there, no argument. If you're going to blame Mr. Bush, fine. I will not defend his foreign policy decisions after March 2003 when the Iraq War started. I've lost at least two high school classmates in the Middle East in the last three years and quite frankly find the Iraq War to be a miscarriage of our checks and balances system. Let's leave this alone now, shall we?

Hey, UK, I've got a lot of respect for your government and your people. Next to Americans, they're the hardiest people I've ever met! I'll never forget Winston Churchill's 'we will fight them on the beaches, we will fight them in the streets' speech my high school history teacher extolled for a week. No, that's not where my problem lies. I'd like to visit London in the next couple years (my reward for paying off these student loan debts I'll be carting around starting soon).

As far as the young woman, I would not give up my American citizenship. Uh-uh....NOT happening. And if I'm not mistaken, you are allowed to retain the citizenship of your home country when you become a naturalized American citizen. As a result, you would have dual citizenship. I fail to see a problem here, with the exception of the pride of being a British subject being lost. Ahhh, well....never having been a British subject, I really can't speak intelligently on this subject.

He's taking advantage because he's been here since he was a teen, had a job here since then and has a wife and kids here. He's enjoyed the freedoms of American shores, the protections afforded Americans AND the rights (with the exception of voting) and the amenities of American shores (probably including home-ownership, too). I saw a figure once about home-ownership in the UK, particularly England. Its nowhere near what we have. C'mon....being here THAT long while doing all this without deciding to become a citizen doesn't bother you a little? Sorry, UK and Sober....I guess there's too much of that traditionalist and/or patriot in me. -Rocky

I never said I had a problem with people from other cultures, UK-Guy. I apologize if that's the way it sounded. I just have a problem with people that think they're holier than thou when it comes to citizenship in what has all but become their adopted home. -Rocky

PS The Unites States does not recognize any citizenship other than it's own. I have a friend who just got her citizenship after 14 years, between her family and her own doing... and working their butts off, she made the appointment, had the interview, took the test - got her passport.
I have a few choice words for this country's direction, but no need to get into that here...

Personal opinion, there's only room here for those who want it bad enough and are willing to work hard for it.
Sounds like you're in that area, so I wish the best of luck to you!

First of all, good for your friend! Second, I really thought the law allowed for dual citizenship. Apparently, I was wrong, so never mind. -Rocky

Huh....interesting. I thought the United States recognized dual citizenship. I know my uncle--a native of Mexico--hasn't signed and submitted a final piece of paperwork to receive his American passport. I thought he'd told me he would retain his Mexican citizenship. I must have heard wrong. -Rocky

Hey I thought so too! But she told me they no longer recognized it... it goes for a few countries in the EU as well. Ironically enough, she's recognized as a citizen in 4 different countries now!

I dont have any more time to argue Rocky . I dont care about your opinion of me . I do however care about my wife and children and I need my job to support them. I will change my name to The-US-Guy and go become a citizen so I am no longer breaking your laws and taking advantage of your great country that is making me leave my wife and children because i screwed up some forms, that can walk into my house whenever they want because I am not a citizen, that can moniter my phone calls, regularly call me for blood samples to check I dont have hiv or any other disease, charges me 10 times more than you pay at community colleges can revoke my status at any time for no reason and will take 25% more tax off any inheritance I may leave to my children when I pass than they would take off you to your children. there are also special circumstances regarding my w2s , nor can I be a ward of the sate or claim welfare (not that I ever would) if I break any laws of this country I face immediate deportation and would lose any property and assets that I may have gained during my stay here . during any trial I would be Guilty until proven innocent and would face double the penalty if convicted. I would pay my debt to society first then to the INS for breaking the contract I signed upon entrance to the county then also back in the UK for embarrising my country as a representative. I hope this makes you happy Rocky.

Again....interesting. I'll have to remember to ask my uncle about this next time I see him. I'm fascinated by the law. I'll bet the U.K. is on that list of EU nations and has been for a long time. I've never met anyone--other than an American--that was so touchy about their citizenship. Another of my fascinations is cultures. I don't understand enough about British culture to have an intelligent discussion about this, unfortunately . -Rocky

I think it comes down to Island mentality. The UK is a small country, it would fit inside california, theres hundreds of years of pride and love for our king and country. Once a British Citizen always a British Citizen even if we were to renounce it and give up our passport to another country we would be welcomed back (no one would ever do that). If America hadnt of got involved in WW2 we would all be dead because we would fight to the finish ,men, women and children all. You may laugh and not believe this but I know when there are other Brits around me I can smell em (not in a bad way) a mile off and point them out in a crowd. My wife and kids trip out sometimes when I point at people from a distance and say "I bet they`re Brits" Im always right on the money. OK so now everyone thinks I`m a weirdo lol I`m gonna shut up now .

so you would do exactly what I have done and retain your own citizenship if you were in my position. why is it Ok for you to retain your citizenship abroad but not for me ? I think you ought to take your first comment back

ROFLMAO.....Blackbox, I told you British subjects are touchy about their status!!

UK-Guy....excuse me while I roll on the floor laughing for a few minutes. After that, I say you go back to the UK. You don't belong in the United States of America. I love the Brits but this attitude is offensive. You want to come to AMERICAN shores, enjoy AMERICAN freedoms BUT you don't want to follow AMERICAN laws OR become an AMERICAN citizen?? GET OUT!!!!!!

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this OR get a slap on the wrist from a moderator but this attitude isn't respectable. -Rocky

Healthcare boils down to this.... if you can't take care of yourself and your body - you deserve to die, quit looking to the government to solve your problems - PUT DOWN THE BIG MAC, FATTY.
My issue is with the environment first - then education.
Environment isn't a US thing IT'S A WORLD
