Rep Power: 468 | Feeders...What gear to you start in? What gear do you start in? Always 1st or does it depend on whether you are bobtailing or pulling triples. New feeder driver and I've a couple of different things. Driving an International 10 speed. |

Rep Power: 5432 | Re: Feeders...What gear to you start in? I always start out in brown uniform gear. If I have to pre/post-trip in rain or snow, I change to rain gear. As the night progresses, I may switch to just t-shirt and pants gear. If the trip is REALLY long, well, again, "don't ask, don't tell".
That help?
Oh, wait a min. You meant transmission gear? "Nevermind". |

Rep Power: 959 | Re: Feeders...What gear to you start in? basically you're starting out in whatever gear it takes to move the equipment without slipping the clutch excessively . Bobtail could be third or fourth - pulling a load could be first or second. Also type of trans makes a difference on the start up gear.

Bobtailing, I start off in "5th".
If you are going by the shift diagram, I start off in 1st for loads and 4th when I bobtail.
I only use "Lo" starting on a hill.

Am I working to hard by shifting too much????

Am I working to hard by shifting too much???? | I would say rowing through all the gears when bobtailing seems like more work .
