Press Release from UPS.com RICHMOND, Jan. 11, 2008 – UPS Freight (NYSE:UPS), the nation's fourth-largest less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier, today announced a general rate increase averaging 5.4 percent covering non-contractual shipments in the United States and Canada. The increase goes into effect on Feb. 4, 2008, and applies to minimum charge, LTL and truckload (TL) rates. "We are continuing to improve service to our customers and to provide the latest technology," said UPS Freight President Jack Holmes. "On Jan. 1, UPS began offering on-time guarantees at no additional charge to customers on the current base UPS Freight tariff for shipments moving within the continental United States." Also beginning this month, customers can process both package and LTL shipments in the UPS WorldShip® system, an enhancement that's already exciting customers, Holmes added. In addition to being able to create a Bill of Lading (BOL) for LTL shipments, UPS WorldShip users can send e-mail notifications, save BOL's for later completion, import commodities and view their negotiated rates. "I have worked with many freight and transportation companies, and I've filled out hundreds of forms and freight bills," says Richard Rohde, who handles shipping for Independent Electric Supply in San Francisco. "In my opinion, this version is by far the easiest to use and the fastest." UPS Freight, the over-the-road heavy freight division of UPS, offers a full range of regional, interregional and long-haul LTL and TL capabilities in all 50 states, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Guam along with comprehensive cross-border service in Canada and Mexico. |

I couldn't tell you about growth since Motor Cargo has been turned upside down by Overnite. |

I have never never seen this happen in the 15+ years with OVERNITE most guys arent even getting 30 hrs. UpS did not have any idea what they got into.UpS doesn't have a clue about how the freight buis works lol. They think just because UpS purchased OVERNITE it was suddenly going to be the biggest and best, if anything we are losing customers, since UpS has taken over the prices are almost double from what i am hearing from customers. |

UPS seems to forget the competition in freight is more than just FEDX.maybe on the package side you can get away with running half empty trailers down the road but it doesn't cut it in freight.I see the revenue on some of the loads and I'm telling you after paying fuel, tolls, local driver, road driver, dock worker, they are lucky if they make a hundred dollars on the load. UPS needs to take a hard look at the people they are hiring in upper management. They also need to improve their sales team. Before UPS purchased Overnight we had the best next day service in th northeast and new england. If they were smart the first change they would make is to close down the company nightmare NEWBURGH,NY.Most inefficient, unprofitable mistake Overnight ever built! The problem is customers expect three things out of a freight company, service, damage free shipments and price. At this point they are not getting any of the three. But what do i know I'm just a truck driver with twenty three years in the business! |

I am making a PLEA here to all you drivers and especially part time preloaders and sorters:
I am not in management but what really concerns me is the reputation that we have regarding damages.
This really needs to change and TIEGUY I hope you read this:
Everyone needs to make a concerted effort not to damage peoples property while we handle it....It is that simple.......
I realize the difficulty here especially with over 70 pounders.....For the most part most of them loaded on my truck are really mutiated.....
This has to stop or we all we be looking for jobs! UPS upper management really has to send a message to whoever that is breaking up this stuff...I realize the belts have something to do with this but for the most part something needs to be done!
If you claim that UPS overnight LTL is that bad then something needs to be done! Get the shipments there in one piece everytime and maybe someday Business's will respect giving us there business!
Don't get me wrong I know we all work extra hard by our selves everyday.....Instead of stepping on that box and damaging it pick it up before that happens! Part time pre-load sups: I know you have one of the harder jobs but come on quit breaking and damaging peoples packages and pushing preloaders far enough to destroy this company! You have no idea the expression on peoples faces when they see their broken box! NO one wants there package to look like it just came out of a blender for crying out loud! |

Yes NEWBURGH was a mistake from the beginning and the engineers who planned this still are not held accountable for this and everyother failure they cause. |

Unfortunately UPS has turned into a company that only makes changes if they are forced to do so in most cases, no longer the pioneering company it once was. Example they wait till the competition improves their time in transit usually before they even consider doing it themselves, or even making plans to do it. I mean come on, have all them overpaid suits and ties make themselves useful and be a little proactive in planning for the future rather then the present.

The work here is easy, even in the city which I have done for years unless you have a handstacker. Unlike you guy's who get your exercise running from the ravenous dog of the neighborhood while your trying to deliver packages of viagra. |

It'd be nice to see an influx of freight in the next few weeks, due to the impending Chrysler contract or otherwise. I started after UPS acquired Overnite and Motor Cargo, but if this is what it's been like since the buy out, it's either gone downhill, or you guys who used to be with Overnite and Motor Cargo had to have really been starving!
More so, the economy is on a long downturn right now, and it's high time we (USA) got our together. It's not just a UPS problem. Put an end to NAFTA NOW! |

Hang in there, it will get busier, the economy is not doing so well along with this being the beginning of the year first quarter. Pretty soon you will be working so much, you will be begging for time off! Hang in there, get a part time job at Wallyworld on the weekends to get by, it will get better. |

We now have "managers" when in fact we need "leaders"! People want to be inspired, to feel that what they are doing is not just marking time, and to feel a part of a greater whole. If we can make that shift, I believe that we can see great strides made. |

There cutting runs and putting people on the extraboard not exactly a layoff, but close.
