    UPS Info for UPSers New Pricing Takes Effect December 30, 2013

    UPS® today released new published rates for 2014. UPS Ground, Air and International, and Air Freight rates within and between the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico will increase an average net of 4.9 percent.

    Updated rate and service information will be posted on www.ups.com/rates, beginning today. Customers can download the 2014 UPS Rate and Service Guide on Dec. 30, 2013, when the new rates take effect.

    UPS Info for UPSers Executives shifting gears to improve customer service

    High-tech companies are making strategic shifts to their supply chain models to enable greater customer-centricity, meet changing consumer demand patterns and capture new growth opportunities. Findings come from the 4th annual global UPS Change in the (Supply) Chain survey, conducted by IDC Manufacturing Insights.

    Interest in near-shoring has more than tripled since 2010. Globally, 27% of high-tech logistics executives are embracing near-shoring as one strategy to improve their customer service. When asked globally about the top drivers for near-shoring, 77% said they wanted to improve service levels by bringing production closer to demand and almost 55% cited improving control over quality and intellectual property.

    Other high-tech executives, including 82% in the U.S., will continue to use their existing supply chain strategies. Survey respondents cited the cost benefits of low-cost manufacturing countries and the location of key suppliers as the top reasons for not considering near-shoring.

    UPS Info for UPSers Bipartisan Legislation Protects Healthcare Consumers, Establishes Federal Standards to Strengthen Drug Supply Chain

    UPS applauds Congress for passing legislation to enhance the safety of the nation's healthcare supply chain and drug distribution network. The bill, which President Obama is expected to sign, establishes the first-ever national standards and requirements for pharmaceutical distribution providers.

    "The Drug Quality and Security Act is a giant step forward for the safety of America's drug distribution network and our supply chains," said Scott Davis, UPS chairman and CEO. "The creation of uniform federal standards will reduce regulatory complexity, while the addition of track-and-trace measures will add transparency and accountability."

    UPS Info for UPSers The UPS Board of Directors declared a regular quarterly dividend of $0.62 per share on all outstanding Class A and Class B shares.

    The dividend is payable December 4, 2013, to shareowners of record on November 18, 2013.

    The Board also approved the filing of a shelf registration statement authorizing the issuance of debt and equity securities. The filing replaces the Company's expiring shelf registration statement that was filed in November 2010.

    Earlier this year, the UPS Board increased the regular quarterly dividend by nearly 9% to the current level of $0.62 per share. UPS's dividend has more than tripled since 2000, growing at a compounded annual rate of 10.5%.

    UPS Info for UPSers Innovative software cuts miles, reduces fuel and sets stage for more personalized customer services

    UPS® announced the launch of its impactful route optimization software known as ORION, which stands for On-Road Integrated Optimization and Navigation. ORION has a team of 500 dedicated resources to move the U.S deployment forward as UPS nears its busy holiday season. The rollout of ORION will optimize 10,000 delivery routes by the end of the year, reduce miles driven and reinforce UPS's sustainability efforts.

    Most routes implemented with ORION have shown a mileage reduction. By the end of this year, the company expects to save more than 1.5 million gallons of fuel and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 14,000 metric tonnes. A reduction of just one mile each day per driver over the course of a year saves the company up to $50 million annually.
