En banc 8th Circuit tosses former UPS driver’s disability lawsuit – Reuters

A federal appeals court on Friday threw out a lawsuit from a former driver for United Parcel Service of America Inc accusing the shipping giant of failing to accommodate his disability.

Partially reversing a three-judge panel’s prior decision, the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said in a 6-3 ruling that Jerry Faidley was unqualified for a “feeder driver” job that was less physically demanding than his previous position as a matter of law because he could not perform the essential functions of that job. The Americans with Disabilities Act did not require UPS to offer him a position for which he was unqualified, the en banc panel said.

How UPS Sees Electric Cargo Bikes Fitting Into Global Logistics [VIDEO] – Electric Bike Report

We spoke to Tom Madrecki, UPS Director of Urban Innovation and Mobility about how they see e-bikes being used now and into the future.

Madrecki told the Electric Bike Report, “In UPS experience with e-trikes even in a limited way, demonstrates that bike delivery can be as efficient if not faster than van and truck delivery so long as it is in the right type of neighbourhood.”

He continued: “Efficiency drives a lot of what UPS does. We are always looking at ways of doing it faster and more efficiently – if it happens to be by bike that’s great! From my perspective it is exciting for a trucking company to be working on bikes.”

UPS has new electric trucks that look straight out of a Pixar movie – Engadget

UPS has revealed sleek new electric trucks that look like they’ve rolled straight out of Pixar’s Cars series. The company revealed it’s working with vehicle manufacturer Arrival on a pilot fleet of 35 lightweight electric trucks that look far more futuristic than the standard boxy vehicles. UPS says the trucks have a longer range than other delivery vehicles, reaching around 150 miles on a single charge. As with all electric vehicles, they have zero emissions.

The trucks, which UPS will test in Paris and London, have what the company describes as a “highly advanced vehicle display,” along with additional safety features. Those include a wrap-around windshield that give the driver a wider field of view (handy to spot any cyclists zipping by) and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, which aim to lower driver fatigue.

UPS and Teamsters discuss adding lower-paid workers for weekend deliveries – Marketwatch

Controversial proposal calls for creating a ‘hybrid driver’ position that would earn as little as $15 an hour

United Parcel Service Inc. and the Teamsters union are discussing a two-tier wage system that would allow the company to hire lower-paid workers to deliver packages on weekends, including Sundays, as the parcel giant seeks ways to manage the surge in e-commerce.

The proposal, raised in recent contract negotiations, calls for creating a “hybrid driver” position that would earn as little as $15 an hour and top out at an hourly wage of $30. These employees’ regular schedule would be Sunday to Thursday or Tuesday to Saturday, avoiding costly overtime.
