“…Obamacare – and nobody can do that like me. We will save $’s and have much better healthcare!”

What a disaster this country has become! Seven years of trashing Obamacare and that’s the piece of garage they came up with? Your average wanker off the street could have done a better job – an absolute disgrace!

Cue Van to come in and say “Well, he’s a populist, so of course his own party doesn’t support him; it’s not embarrassing at all that they can’t pass a single piece of legislation when they own both houses of congress and the presidency.”

I shudder to think what the encore will be, but rest assured it’s going to be a total disaster!

There were many reasons why the bill didn't pass but here are two that stand out. The governor of my state made note of the fact that under the expanded Medicaid program the state was able to get thousands of people who had been on welfare all their lives and one of the reasons they were on it was the paid health insurance and move them into the 7-8-9 dollar no benefit jobs that had gone unfilled for a long time because the expanded Medicaid program still paid their health insurance so at least they were getting something back compared to nothing. But the most part of why it went down among many reasons may be something people don't realize. TWO THIRDS OF MEDICAIDS BUDGET GOES TO NURSING HOMES TO PAY FOR THE CARE OF THE PEOPLE LIVING THERE. Who among us doesn't have or has had a friend spouse or family member spend time in a nursing home ? And these are people whose personal assets have already gone to the nursing home and so they have nothing. And here comes the really bad part. Under the so called " American Healthcare Act. The Medicaid program itself was scheduled to be abolished in the year 2026. What was the nursing home supposed to do? Haul them out and dump them in field and leave them there to die?

If people would buy Long Term Care insurance, many issues with getting old would be lessened. Won't eliminate every issue, but having insurance that pays 4k a month will go a long way toward nursing home cost. LTC insurance was available from Fedex for the cost of a good dinner out but I bet not many people took advantage of the opportunity.

I'm not sure that 4K a month would make much of difference when you take into consideration the average annual cost of living in a nursing home (over $90,000). If you look at the average household savings in the US, it still wouldn't take very long to wind up destitute.

The issue with the system is cost plain and simple; and quite frankly, neither party is capable of breaking the strangle hold the industry has on the political process. This issue is a microcosm of what the real problem is within the US.

The problem is he loves to talk and make himself looks like a completed idiot. If he would just state his case and keep his opinions to himself he wouldn't come off so bad.

You don't trash the current plan when you don't even have one yourself. Prove obamas plan wrong by creating something the people would love. It just goes to show you he is all talk.

In this area 4k will just about pay 100% of nursing home cost. I guess some areas have higher rates.

The primary focus of the Trump presidency is big tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. How were those tax cuts and the resulting revenues losses to be made up? His answer was two fold. Repeal the ACA replace it with a plan that doesn't solve the ongoing healthcare crisis but one that simply dumps the problem back onto the states and how many times have we seen that before? Only this time around the states fought back. The other contributor to solving the lost revenue issue is a so called " border adjustment tax" which as everybody knows is nothing more than an import tariff and the entire retail industry including Big W told Trump to go pound salt because the tax would simply pasted down to the low and middle income consumers who make up Big W's customer base. As for long term care insurance . You would have to look long and hard to find a licensed acute care facility who would accept an insurer's assignment of $131.50 per day (4K per month). Furthermore the policy would only pay that rate for limited amount of time. Any individual who happens to outlive their policy and who's personal assets have been exhausted would end right back on Medicaid assuming that it's still there.

I highly doubt that his administration can do anything, but the funny thing is, if he was successful at reforming taxes, his most ardent supporters would probably be able afford a few more cartons of Camels per year, and the folk at the other end of the spectrum will be getting $200,000! Populist indeed!

Paying almost 8000/month for my mother's Assisted Living Facility. With her IRA's, annuities and selling her home, have enough to pay for it for about four years. Luckily have siblings near her, to take her to her appointments. Place charges $120 each way to take her to her doctor's appointments.
