22.4 or Haul truck

Have an opportunity to take a 22.4 job to get in with UPS. I was a Ground contractor for a few years and for the most part like the work. I have no clue how long I will be running 22.4 before a route opens or feeder opens (they tell me not long but I know they will say whatever).
Then a position came up to run haul trucks at a local mine. Unlimited OT, starts around $26, decent benefits (not as good as UPS), but no pension.
With what you guys know of the 22.4 position and your experience with UPS which direction would you lean towards?

UPS.

You'll be above $26 in 4 years at the latest. Also sounds like there is much more upside in the long run with UPS.
Pension, healthcare and feeder if that's what you're looking for that will be around d $42 when you get there.

Though I don't know anything else about the other job other than what you just said.

Appreciate the responses so far.
Unfortunately both positions are fairly vague from HR. Guys I have talked to at the mine say there a decent raises every year and always promote from within. They work 12hr shifts rotating between nights and days every 2 weeks. I would say that is the strongest thing for me on that side, having two small kids I’d be able to see them after the night shift and after school.
22.4 I don’t know if I’ll be topped out on an actual route in 6 years or 10. Have no idea what type of OT they are putting on and with working Sat and Sun wondering if I will see kids more than a couple hours per week (besides off days). But I do agree long run the money will probably be a fair bit better and the pension is huge.

You also wont be 22.4 forever. Once you become a RPCD(regular package car driver) you'll be M-friend making $40. You can probably bank on 9.5 or more OT a day.

It's a tough choice but you also might not want those 12 hour days forever either.

Stick with UPS if your body can take the wear and tear. Follow the methods and have a job for life with pension when you retire. That mine job can close down any given moment.

Let me ask you this. Do the women get moist when they see a mine truck roll by?

Sounds like the mine gig is pretty good. If it was RPCD vs Mine, I'd say go UPS...but it's not. I'd go mine if I were you.

Wages: mine is much better short term. Long term could be a wash or better at UPS.
Working conditions: will be better hauling truck with OSHA watching your back.
Pension: 30 years of uncertainty...invest heavier into a 401k, it's not as great as people think.
Healthcare: better at UPS
Schedule: Weekends vs Nights...it's a wash
Stability:UPS more stable IF you can get seniority...not everyone can.

Right now I can retire with a $50,000 a year pension for the rest of my life. Amortization analysis says my pention would cost over a million to purchace.

All my kids had orthodonic work. $25,000 total, no cost to me. My prescriptions cost $9 each...3 kids with allergies the EpiPens alone would have been $600 each, $9 each for me.

My wife had an eye issue. Very good local specialist doctors could not figure it out, we went to the Mayo Clinic in MN and they saved her eyesight...covered by our insurance. That cost us $200 out of pocket for 6 figures worth of medical attention. Not to mention her being able to see.

Fed Ex ground or UPS.... .no question.

I’ve been driving at UPS and apparently working at and operating a mine under my center building as I’ve been accused by my center manager, on many occasions , of undermining the entire operation.

That is a pretty impressive benefit. I do think you got the wrong other job though.

I wouldn’t ever come in here and ask FeEx Ground vs UPs. I would deserve a public ass whooping.

FedEx Ground vs prison bitch may be a more even comparison.
