Re: A shooting that erupted after an employee's disciplinary hearing left nine people Lets change the items being discussed from "guns" to "cars and alcohol" Is it possible that he was a legal driver who legally bought alcohol and only became illegal when he started drinking and driving? That's the thing about cars and alcohol that baffles me. It seems like the line between "law abiding car owner" and "criminal" rests on one crazy thought followed by a tragic act. ------------------------------------------------------ To answer both questions....yes. All the laws in the world will not stop human beings from making stupid, tragic choices. Controlling, regulating or even banning inantimate objects such as cars, guns, and alcoholic beverages will never change the fact that a certain percentage of the population will always obtain and misuse these items, sometimes with deadly consequences. Its one of the inevitable side effects of living in a "free" society. The freedom to make individual choices for ourselves includes the freedom to make bad ones. We would undoubtedly be much "safer" if we lived in a society where our government made all of those choices for us and where potentially dangerous items and activities such as guns, cars, alcoholic beverages, knives, swimming, skydiving, mountain climbing, tobacco, sugar, caffiene, fast food and premarital sex were all prohibited. Safer though it may be.... that just isnt the type of society I want to live in.
